Mutou Yuumi

Female // 142cm // 36kg // AB
Purple Eyes // Tri-Colored Hair
Pokémon Island Champion
Quarter-Finalist of Battle City

Kadabra // Dugtrio // Magneton
Gothika // Honchkrow // Zapdos

Yuumi's home life is pretty similar, other than Mum might complain a little more about the housework (which is a little silly, because up to a year ago she had Swablu to help!) and she has another housemate in the form of Mesmer, who acted both as unofficial babysitter and source of amusement long before he was among her team.

But the biggest shift shows up at school. After all, girls and boys both bully, but they tend to go about it and have to face it differently. She's labeled more "strange" than "puny" for her game obsessing. Instead of getting unsuccessfully corralled into sports or roughed up or plain beat up, Yuumi is socially ostracized, getting little if any interaction with peers other than childhood friend Mazaki Aoi, until the Ushio incident. So she still wishes for friends, though there is a slight shift to "friends I can trust no matter what" rather than "friends I can rely on no matter what" in wording.

She's a little better at people reading than her doubles from dealing with tricks or two-faced behavior, but she's even more nervous interacting than Yuugi, and struggles a little more with direct or physical threats. Thus she highly admires people that face any challenge with confidence and strength, which might have something to do with her admiration for Yami no Yuumi, and feelings for Setsuna - especially after witnessing the fight the CEO put up to save her brother from Pegasus.

Yami no Yuumi

Spirit of the Millennium Puzzle
The Nameless Pharaoh

Kadabra // Dugtrio // Magneton

Gothika // Honchkrow // Zapdos
Her past life remains a mystery, given this is a mid-Battle City pharaoh without memories.

But either there's some shift in her past thanks to being a queen ruler, or she's reacting to the change in her partner. Yuumi's enhanced issues with socializing translates to the overprotective spirit jumps to her rescue more often, and outside of duels. Which is ironic, given YnYuumi is even more socially awkward than her host.

Yuumi is adapting and growing more confident speaking up for herself (especially after meeting Otogi), so spirit won't jump out in a heartbeat anymore. But the times she does will show a gal that's no pushover in a fight, yet utterly uneasy with regular friendly chatter. A far cry from the teasing 'big sis' she is when alone with Yuumi.

But still, she adores the circle of friends around her host near as much as Yuumi does. Loyalty means all the more to her, and she highly values anyone that refuses to give up, which explains why she finds her partner ever more endearing, and her interest in Katsumi.

Kaiba Setsuna

Female // 177cm // 59kg // A
Blue Eyes // Brown Hair
Former Pokémon Champion
Host & Quarter-Finalist of Battle City

Altaria // Altaria // Altaria
Porygon // Pawniard // Articuno

Setsuna's life hasn't shifted in a significant way, but her relationships personal expectations have taken a toll.

While Gozaburo still adopted the Kaiba siblings because of her efforts, his confidence was never quite as strong in Setsuna, in terms of inheriting his company, so he actually put Mokuba through a similar cruel education as Setsuna. Mokuba's didn't last quite as long, since he started later than her and Setsuna sent him to public school after their step-father died. But he certainly paid for it during the time, and in how relations with his sister are strained. After all, for some time there Mokuba was the alternate Gozaburo threatened to replace her with, while Mokuba's efforts to possibly take the company himself went up when she took over. As such any efforts Mokuba makes to prove himself are tinged with resentment, while she meets them with more anger than annoyance.

But things changed for the better after Yami no Yuumi crushed Setsuna's mind. Mokuba was worried sick and realized how for all their fighting he relied on his sister, while Setsuna remembered what he meant to her when she almost lost him to Pegasus. Meanwhile, her numerous fights with Yami no Yuumi, and interactions with Yuumi via those fights and checks on how her old Swablu (now Altraria) is doing are making Setsuna reassess the idea that being the best is the only way to prove herself. Even if she won't admit it, yet.

Jounouchi Katsumi

Female // 168cm // 55kg // B
Brown Eyes // Blond Hair
Runner-Up of Pokémon Island
Quarter-Finalist of Battle City

Dratini // Liepard // Riolu
Vespiquen // Blastoise // Duosion

There's really not much difference between the Jounouchis, and for that Katsumi would be considered a former "yankee", given her brash attitude and former gang associations. But nowadays she filters that manner into standing up zealously for her friends and protesting any slights over her talent as a trainer, and she also tries to mind her manners a touch more around Shizuka. She can't see the younger gal acting too much like her, but Shizuka is more prone to imitate her big sister, who she looks up to in much the same way Katsumi looks up to Mai (though actually all three girls are developing a mutual admiration for each other).

Given she's got some worry of what her dad would do with her pokémon, Katsumi houses most of them at the Mutou household. (Not that Yuumi's mum cares for that much either, but Sugoroku runs interference and keeps them in a converted storage room in the store.) As such Katsumi stays at the Mutou house more often, since she'll stay late anyways to train and take care of her brood. So Yuumi sees Katsumi as family, and Yami no Yuumi has more direct interaction with Katsumi than anyone else in the group.

Bakura Ryoko
 (& Yami no Bakura)
Female // 164cm // 45kg // AB
Brown Eyes // White Hair
Game Club Founder
Quarter-Finalist of Battle City

Sableye // Shuppet // Lampent
Spiritomb // Haunter // Mismagius

Ryoko's background has few differences from her canon, but it is good to note that Yami no Bakura stepped in a shade earlier in this canon, because Ryoko would have done all she could to outright reject playing a game with her new classmates. Since her passion for games and all things scary comes off all the stranger from a small gal, Ryoko learned early to keep her hobbies under wraps, and so for Yami no Bakura to work all the harder to bring up tabletops to potential victims, and then convince them to play against the will of her host.

So, Ryoko was aware of her other self earlier on, and outright avoided making friends - any efforts to do so were made by Yami no Bakura. That is until Yami no Bakura's last trick landed her Yami no Yuumi as an opponent, and her victory meant that while she's still around - doing things like capturing ghost pokémon on Pegasus's Island and joining the Battle City tournament - Yami no Bakura has to mind her actions so much Ryoko feels free to make friends and play with others again, which she's fully basking in via forming a club at school.

Otogi Riye

Female // 167cm // 56kg // B
Green Eyes // Black Hair
Dungeon Dice Doors Creator
Former Black Clown Shop Owner

Joltik // Mr. Mime // Charmeleon

Riye's background remains the grizzly thing it was before - a child born purely to exact revenge against the Mutou family for a bitter father. There's not much else to say to it, given she served the purpose just as well as a girl. Though it should be noted her game is DDD - Dungeon Dice Doors - because she designed it around pokémon, as they are the pieces that are summoned and attack based on a maze they run through, with all moves and the chances of doors in the maze opening based on the rolls of dice.

With some support from Yami no Bakura, Yuumi managed to fight her way through her disadvantages and the horror of her Puzzle breaking, and by the end, after her father's tricks nearly killed Yuumi & Katsumi and burnt down their store, Riye was won over as Yuumi's newest friend.

Mazaki Aoi

Male // 179cm // 56kg // O
Blue Eyes // Brown Hair
Basketball Club Member
Aspiring Dancer

Uninvolved with Pokémon and making friends in the same manner, Aoi's dreams have not changed much thanks to his genderswap. He just works at Burger World behind the counter, and can play basketball without worrying about skirts. Aoi still stood up for Yuumi for years, found Katsumi and Hiro a pain until Yuumi bound them together, and longs to cross the ocean to study dance in New York. (Well, okay, maybe he gets different feedback from some when he actually admits that fact.)

Even her crush on Yami no Yuumi is similar, save it's slowly being replaced not with an interest in Yuumi, but in someone else. To him Yuumi's the sister he never had, and can rely on through it all, and that will never change.

Honda Hiro

Female // 170cm // 58kg // A
Brown Eyes // Brown Hair
Baseball Club Member
Nephew's Babysitter

Honda's character remains largely intact as Hiro, save her manner gives a bit of a different impression, particularly among her family, given the comparison of this gal of questionable future versus her elder sister, who's already settled down and had a son.

Since making friends with Yuumi and Aoi, Hiro has grown a lot herself. Her gruff shyness has died down a tad, and she's a little braver on speaking her feelings, than she was when facing Mihoto. She's also more likely to give a hand to those around her than before, like with her older sister and her kid, or with her own friends. Hiro's still no honor student, but she's joined an after-school club, where she plays baseball. Though that might be less to better herself than to pass time, while Aoi's at her club and Yuumi & Katsumi train their pokémon together.

universally cracktastic, info
