OOC ► Pokémon, a History

Sep 22, 2011 14:23

About a decade ago no one knew about Pokémon. Or at least, no one outside of a secret community in Egypt, and a few souls that  survived a trip into the tombs they guarded - but their tales were never believed. Only a couple had ever managed to remove the creatures from their original habitat, and they managed it by befriending them, and thus refused to reveal them to the rest of the world.

It was only when a millionaire by the name of Pegasus made a trip into the desert that the knowledge of these strange creatures spread. A strange man named Shadi had gifted him with a golden relic that gave him the power to call them from wherever they came from, and he used that power in abundance to bring them forth, and then took them with him to an island he owned. There, he let the creatures run free and multiply, and seemingly befriended a few enough that they listened to his guidance when they fought against others of their kind.

The rest of the world soon took notice, and it became the biggest thing around to trade or buy one of these creatures from Pegasus. But it was only when Kaiba Gozaburo made a deal with him, breeding some of the strongest to give out along with the rest of his artillery, that anyone considered them as weapons. If Kaiba had managed to get more than a few off of Pegasus, it would have been quite a threat. But eventually the man was overthrown by his stepdaughter Setsuna, and while she kept up some of Gozaburo's corrupt practices, she stopped the warfare production of KaibaCorp. Instead she marketed Pokémon like a rare product, making people compete for the right to own such a collectible.

It wasn't until she happened to overhear that a classmate's grandfather had a Swablu - a Pokémon she highly coveted but Pegasus refused to trade off his island and let anyone else own - that battling came back into the picture. For she tried to steal the Swablu from Mutou Yuumi, but the girl used some trick with her golden necklace on her to make Swablu attack her. But later Setsuna found and bought two Swablus off people who stole them from the island. Her stepfather had been developing equipment to capture and command Pokémon, and Setsuna developed on what she had banned until she had a more humane version, inspired by Yuumi's power.  She then used that to command her two new Swablus, and with them she defeated Mutou Sugoroku, and took the third he owned. But her victory was short-lived. While she got to keep the three, Yuumi survived the trials the CEO set up for vengeance, and faced Setsuna, shockingly defeating her when the second Pokémon Sugoroku owned - an apparently useless thing - evolved into a Kadabra, and defeated the three Swablus.

After that Setsuna lapsed into a weak state, leaving her brother to man the company, and Pegasus easily gained rights to the Pokéball equipment, and then announced a tournament - people  that already owned a Pokémon were invited to come to his island and compete for the right to capture the Pokémon on his island. If they defeated Pegasus in a battle, they could even gain ownership of the Island, and all the Pokémon left! Yuumi & Setsuna were both forced into joining by Pegasus, who wanted Yuumi's Puzzle and Setsuna's company as a whole. Setsuna lost here as well, but the trip still worked out in her favor, as she got some vengeance against Yuumi, and when the Mutou girl defeated Pegasus she got back her brother.

But when Yuumi won the Island she proclaimed that while they should be protected from being grabbed by some company wanting to sell them, anyone should have a right to come and try to capture a Pokémon the proper way. This took the creatures themselves from Setsuna's control, as the Pokémon spread to anyone that could win them, and then those won were bred. But she gained back rights to the Pokéballs, which people needed to battle, and created a storage system to hold the creatures while inside their balls. The system became widely used within months of Pegasus's tournament, as people captured more pokémon and rules on how many a trainer could carry at once became regulated to six. Many such standards were put forth at this point.

Eventually a woman from Egypt appeared and offered an exceedingly rare Pokémon to the Kaiba CEO on the promoise Setsuna would hold a tournament of her own, to find the best trainer. And there's a special rule - if someone loses a battle, they have to offer the winner one of their own Pokémon as a prize. With such high stakes Yuumi was reluctant to join, but her other self requested it, because she had met the woman from Egypt too, and knew she would uncover enemies and secrets alike in this tournament. For someone else from Egypt - someone else who could control Pokémon without a ball to capture them, was coming with the two remaining legendary Pokémon, looking for her.
