[There's a bit of fumbling as he struggles with the buttons. And then a heavy pause. He's muttering a few formulas under his breath. Science people may recognize various physics equations. Make them up at will, if you'd like. And then he stops mid-formula and just sighs. He's been trying to avoid saying this aloud for a while.]

They're alive.
And I'm not.

His present to "find out what happened" to the mission was to be given a DVD of the movie (which he watched today), minus all the extra frilly stuff that made it look like a movie.
