L for Losing.
Rated T
Spoilers: Up through season 6.

Nobody really likes to lose. Usually Sam can put up with losing to a point---Dean beats him at a card game, no problem; Ben kicks his ass in Monopoly, not a big deal. But there are some things Sam just can't stand to lose at.
    Like with Lucifer.
In the end, the Devil was right. Sam said 'Yes' in Detroit. Even though they had a plan---a scary as shit plan, but a plan---they lost. Sam lost. The world lost. Lucifer took control as easily as an adult could have taken a piece of candy from a some little kid. The kid could throw as much of a tantrum and fight as long as they wanted, but in the end the adult would win.
Sam remembered a lot of what happened to him while he was an occupied vessel. The killing. The talks with Lucifer. The almost showdown with Michael wearing Adam. Dean.
He remembered beating the crap out of Dean and Dean didn't even fight back. He just...took it.
But something happened. Sam was able to take control long enough to toss himself into the Pit, to trap himself with Lucifer. Michael and Adam weren't supposed to go down with them, though. That wasn't part of the plan. Then again, Lucifer taking control of Sam in the beginning wasn't exactly part of the plan either so maybe the shouldn't have relied on this plan so much.
As far as Sam's concerned, losing to Lucifer can really suck. Big time. Winning against Lucifer, though, well, winning is awesome.
So he spent a lot of time in Hell? So what? Maybe Adam didn't deserve to be there, but Sam's just glad Dean didn't go down with them.
