It's kinda sad, but I don't know who most of these people are. They are all British actors. Didn't even know who Martin was until just recently. It's hard for me to get excited, therefore.

I guess after the movies come out, I'll know. :-)

Benedict is the star of BBC's Sherlock, in which Martin plays John Watson. *points to icon* I mention him here, occasionally... *cough* ;)

Yes if this is indeed true, I'm sure you'll know! Though maybe not so much what he looks like - some speculate that he might be voicing Smaug, because apparently he's mentioned that as something he'd like to do at some point. He has a fantastic baritone voice, and from the versatility he's shown when doing different characters in audiobooks and radio plays, I could definitely 'hear' him as Smaug's voice!

TORn have mentioned it too now: http://www.theonering.net/torwp/2011/05/22/44565-breaking-benedict-cumberbatch-in-the-hobbit/

Oh, OK he's Sherlock. Now I know who he is! Thanks, hon.

I'll have to watch it again to remember what his voice sounds like. In my mind I think Smaug would have a very deep voice since he's so big. A baritone would seem to be a good choice.

Martin Freeman was also in the UK (original) version of The Office, and starred in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. You've probably seen (and enjoyed him) in a lot of stuff and didn't know who he was. Trivia: He's also in an obscure movie "Night Something Somethings" about Rembrandt - it's shot like a play and for the first five minutes of the movie he's mother naked. Let me just say he's further proof that god compensates short men in a very pleasing way....:-)

I'm still holding back a bit until we get official confirmation from PJ/Warner Bros., but yeah, this is great news! :D
