Chapman film wins Debut Feature prize
By TOM ARMITAGE
Helmer Jarrett Schaefer's "Chapter 27," about John Lennon's assassin Mark David Chapman, won the Debut Feature prize at the third Zurich Film Festival on Saturday.
The drama, starring Jared Leto and Lindsay Lohan, preemed at this year's Sundance Film Festival.
"The film presents an interesting look at fame from the point of view of a fan," said the fest's jury, whose president was producer Albert S. Ruddy. "A view of people who look for links, connections, evidence to justify force and violence toward others."
In the New Documentary category, Dan Cox picked up a Golden Eye award for his debut, "Running With Arnold" about Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Israeli-French co-production "The Band's Visit" scooped the fest's New Fiction prize.
The pic, directed by Eran Kolirin, tells the story of an Egyptian police band invited to play in Israel. It also went home with Variety's New Talent Award.
British comedy "Twelve in a Box," directed by John McKenzie, took the audience accolade, awarded together with the jury prizes at the end of the fest on Saturday.
The 11-day fest aimed to attract 25,000 visitors and hopes to establish itself as a European platform for young talent.
I posted
a report about Daniel Dae Kim's visit to the Pusan International Film Festival at
danieldaekim.
Then here's
a report about Karl being in talks for the role of Dr. Leonard 'Bones' McCoy in J.J. Abrams' new Star Trek film. They mention him currently filming Black Water Transit, so I guess that could be the reason why he had to cancel RingCon.
And last but not least, Ian McKellen
confirms he'd love to play Gandalf in The Hobbit, even if PJ weren't directing it:
McKellen keen to be Gandalf in 'Hobbit'

Sir Ian McKellen has said that he would like to reprise the role of Gandalf if there is a movie adaptation of The Hobbit.
The film of the J.R.R. Tolkien novel has been delayed due to disputes between Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson and the production studios.
However, McKellen has claimed that he would enjoy playing the wizard again, even if Jackson isn't at the helm.
He told Reuters: "When Peter announced he had withdrawn from The Hobbit, he sent me an e-mail saying, 'Because I am not going to do it, it doesn't mean you have to do the same. Of course, you must play Gandalf whether I direct or not.'"
McKellen added: "I am glad to read that it is looking more and more likely...I would be disappointed if they didn't want to have the original Gandalf.
"I suppose if I am still functioning and working well, it is very likely I would be asked to do it and if I were, I would be very pleased to do it."
