Advice on Corkboard?

I have this rather large, four by three cork-board in my room I'm not sure what to do with. It's covering some cracks and holes in the paint I can't fix right now, but I'm rearranging my room and I'd love to know your ideas on what to do with it. Its practically a focal point in my smallish room, being evident the moment you open the door. I have a ( Read more... )

Where is the board? Right now, I have my 4x3 board beside my bee, which is pushed against the wall. Beside that but down more is a smaller board, so you could do something like that. Or, if you have a desk in your room, you could put the large board above the desk, which I also have (I love corkboards and whiteboards). Or you could leave your board where it is and put something small but useful underneath it, like a table or something; or even fancy the area around the board? Hope this could help and I'd love to see after photos ;)

Hmm, my bed's against a wall and that's the wall the corkboard is on. Unfortunately due to door/closet/window placement in my (old!) and small room, that's where the bed has to stay.
Since it's not needed for organization so much, the smaller picture board dealing with that, do you think it might be better to just replace it with a picture?
It just looks odd and empty xD
Thanks for the suggestions though, and while I still have work to do I could probably take some pictures of a find in an antique store I'm using to influence the rest of my room ^^
and I do actually appreciate your thoughts.

Hmm, a picture might be nice. The other suggestione are good too because there is so much you could do with a board.

A corkboard is a great way to display things from your life, like photos and artwork or scraps of fabric and just about anything in between. I had a roommate that would change her large corkboard weekly to display what she was thinking or feeling, and she used these really neat little gold bee pins to make her board interesting. She would put dried flowers up there, and little trinkets. It WAS the focus point of her room actually. She put travel postcards up there, really made it neat. There's a lot you can do with it, and the cool thing is you can always change it!

Hmmm, a fabric background might serve to make it more interesting. As I just mentioned I have a smaller board with some of what you were describing ( my dried graduation flower, photos, letters, cards) but the large one is just empty xD

The fabric background is a great idea - you can also paint cork, so you could make a piece of original art out of it. I personally use a large one like deepseasiren suggests, and put travel postcards of everywhere I go on it - I travel a lot for work. It makes me smile to look up and see those places. I hang some of my favorite Christmas ornaments on mine year round - they are really not Christmas-y but more blown glass art-type things. Hot glue or staple ribbon around the edges. You can glue anything to the frame - sea shells, dried branches, leaves, etc. Hang inspirational pictures and quotes, or pictures of places you want to visit to help you think about those goals. And I love the suggestion to use creative pins too. I'm stealing that idea!
