Hi, I'm Jen, from Fresno, California. I've been watching this community for awhile and this is my first post.
For most of my life, my bedroom has been in a dwelling shared with other people, so it's housed not just the usual bedroom things, but all of my bookcases, CDs, and a large computer desk, too. Lots of STUFF and clutter.
A few months ago I moved from a pseudo-studio apartment into a place with a proper bedroom, and now that room functions solely for sleep and getting dressed. No other distractions! The timing of my move also coincided with a nice tax refund, so I decided to splurge and purchase all new bedroom furniture, bedframe, and mattress. I feel like I finally have an "adult" bedroom for the first time in my life, and I'm absolutely in love with it.
This was my bedroom the night I got the keys to the apartment:
This is what my bedroom looks like now:

Okay, so maybe the teddy bears knock off a few "adult" points. ;-)
Directly in front of the bed:
My apartment is on the second floor and there are trees outside the bedroom windows that provide a nice view, decent shade, and ample privacy, too.

Top of the chest of drawers:
I LOVE that I have air conditioning, but I'm not crazy about the placement of the air conditioner. I bought the big fake orchid plant in an attempt to mask the AC a little bit.
Detail of items on top of chest of drawers (all of these link to larger versions on Flickr):
l-r: glass vase, Buddha cat, old purple bottle, IKEA lamp.

Artwork on the walls:
This is a collograph print I made in a high school printmaking class, many moons ago.
This is a photo of an orchid I shot earlier this year. It hides behind the bedroom door.
At night you can better see the string of purple LED lights I hung behind the curtains:
In the photos, the lights look very blue, but in real life they are more of a magenta color.
The mirror over the dresser was a craigslist find.
The lamp on the nightstand was a lucky yard sale find.
The white frosted globe lights are from IKEA.
The dresser, chest of drawers and nightstand are the "Harmony" collection from Ashley Furniture.
The ottoman next to the chest of drawers came from Target.
The bedframe is "Soho" by Hillsdale Furniture. I found the best price at ezbuyfurniture.com
The bedding is "Botanical" by Àlamode Home: www.alamodehome.com.
The purple curtains came from halfpricedrapes.com. They were in a discontinued color, "grape," so I got them for a great price.
The photos of flowers and black & white collograph print on the wall were all shot/made by me.
The fuchsia silk robe came from oldshanghaionline.com.
