Questions for you lovely people

I posted here before, and I'm in the process of getting ready to paint my room this weekend. All that's left in there at the moment is the wardrobe (unmoveable), the bed, and a teeny table.
I have a couple of questions that I'm hoping you awesome people can help with.
I have chosen a nice blue (Shimmer Quarter from the Dulux range) for my walls, and a slightly darker blue for my trims. My question is, what is best for the ceiling? The same blue as the walls? Or would white be better, to open it up some more? The furniture will be chocolate brown, so I'm a little concerned that blue on the ceiling as well as the walls might be too much?
Secondly, I've found some gorgeous curtains (brown suede) that I absolutely love, however they are ridiculously long. They go right down to the floor and I'd prefer them to finish just under the window trim. Does anyone have any tips/ideas on an easy way to hem them so they won't get a bulky edge at the bottom?
And lastly, I'm wanting to get a nice, comfortable chair for at my desk, that could possibly double as an armchair for friends. I really like this and this from Ikea, but they are way too pricey. Does anyone know of cheaper alternatives? (I live about an hour away from Melbourne, in Australia, if that helps).
