Howdy!

Hello! I'm Diana, 25, and (finally!) a freelance artist and illustrator. I'm a Ugandan-born kpop (Korean pop) and dance fanatic living in Fort Worth, TX.

Yeah...I don't know how to explain that either.

I live at home and kind of 'rent out' my old room while I work and to go to school. Not a fancy life, but it saves money. I want to bounce far far away by next year, but until then, my room is one of the few respites I have to myself. I've been a lurker here for a while and thought...hey, why not? Note...I am a big diy-er and tend to catalog everything I buy and make..so you've been warned.

This is my 'chandelier' of sorts. I had an old fan, didn't like it, had a roll of paper and started cutting and taping. This happened. If I change my mind, I can always go back, but this gave me a lot more light and it's interesting to look at.

This is the view of my desk as you walk in...

By the way, if anyone has any suggestions for a chair, please get back to me. I just put a cushion on a stool to fill the space. I use the desk for storage more than a workspace.

The desk was a thrift find at $30.00. I just gave it a shiny coat of a sealant and added wooden knobs and dry-brushed them white. On the left are canvases and art pieces, finished and unfinished.

Beside my desk is a mirror, reflecting my bed and side table, and some branches. I see branches all the time in rooms and just wanted some in mine.

I bought the mirror from a garage sale for $15.00, the branches were free, the roll of paper was free (school supply cleanout) and the purse was sent to me by my father in Uganda. The leaves were painted and cut out of some pieces of old matte board I had.

HERE IS A CLOSEUP OF THE PURSE. I adore it. :)

Next is the corner of my desk...

I bought that calendar for $5.00 and it has tons of beautiful nature scenes in it that fit my room. The artwork framed at the back on my desk is pieces of leaves and bark that I took from the tree in my backyard. I got my small, black photo album from Big Lots! for $2.00 and that photo book (Annie Leibovitz "Women") was a gift from an old art teacher I had in high school. The pictures inside continue to awe me and I think wonders of her for getting it for me. That clunky mess in the front is some jewelry, but I'm a stickler for color coordination sometimes; it's only full of silver, gold, black, white and cream, the other shades in my room.

To the right of my desk is my storage trunk and a miscellany of other things...

I found that trunk at a Good Will for $10.00 and all the locks work! I almost ran out with it, haha. That black bag is my bookbag. I bought it because it was stylish enough that I could go back and forth from the office (my older jobs) to class without looking too conspicuous. Again, more natural elements with the large tree trunk. It's actually a part of a branch that a neighbor was cutting down. I cleaned it off and sealed it...and put it in my room. The little, laughing rabbit on top was a $2.00 find at a thrift store, but I spray-painted him white to match the decor. There's another cushion, as my room doesn't have much, if any, seating and I live all over the bed and floor, haha. The little square mirror was 50cents, but I painted it black and scratched my initial on it. On top of that is a signed CD from one of my favorite kpop boybands...

...from my favorite member. I nearly cried when I received it. (Thank you urban_stereo. I LOVE YOU.)

Okay...back to the room...

This is the inside view of my trunk.

I have an old Polaroid camera in there (more sentimental value than anything, it doesn't work), a level, a camera stand, cards from friends in the upper right corner (along with flyers to a kpop concert that a one sent me), a Nutrition quick-study guide (far right), some books (ranging from medical study to high school memories and childhood fairytales to Korean guidebooks), some 'quick' canvases (bottom and outside of trunk for now), a red bag full of nail polish and my MetroPCS phone box (I keep the info and extras just in case like a NERD).

BELOW ARE SOME BOOK CLOSEUPS. I would have more, but end up donating a lot of what I read. Spread the love, right? :)

As we continue to go around, we come to my bed.

I made the headboard from some chopped branches my neighbor was trimming. Cleaned them off, spray-painted them white to stand out a bit and tied them up. I added leaves here as well. The small birdcage at the top right was something I saw at Michael's for about $3.00 and I HAD to have it.

The bedding is from Wal-Mart (everywhere in Texas...goodness) and the throw is from Dollar General. Paid about $90.00 for the whole thing...which KILLED me because I am CHEAP.

My side table was also from a Dollar General. It cost about $10.00. I have a little book of psalms there, an old candle holder that became my change dish, a 50cent fake flower accessory that I sprayed white, and a large candle holder with Korean writing that I got for $2.00. I forgot how much the candles were, but I like long stem candles. They seem a bit more...romantic to me? I don't know. Ignore the cookie. I had a snack and it just happened to be there when I took the pictures.

Coming around...

This clock hangs behind my door. I bought it for $5.00 at the same place I bought the rabbit. I don't know why anyone would give it away, and it works just fine!

Now on to the 'noise' in my room...MY CLOSET.

Oy...I hate organizing closets. There's clothes at the top, my bag of tricks (some more art supplies) in the middle, shoes at the bottom, and an array of belts hanging up. I do love a good belt. Oh! And that splash of color on the side is a bag I bought from a Nepalese woman for $24.00. The detail and color on it is so vibrant and she made them herself. Every single one I saw was slightly different. If I ever have the chance to see her again, I need to buy more things.

See? I love color. You can see a clearer pic of that Nepalese purse here. I have mountains of laundry, so just ignore that on the bottom. Hanging up are purses and clothes, and on the top right are more purses. The Mickey Mouse I bought on my first trip to Disneyworld, and the puppy was the first stuffed animal a friend bought for me. I had many others, but like I said, sharing is caring, and I've donated a lot of that stuff. And yes, I still walk around the house in my 'SENIOR' year shorts. They are comfy.

SHOES, GLORIOUS SHOES.

Here's to space saving! Whoever invented the caddy that hangs on the back of doors needs an award. Oh, and the purse hanging from the doorknob was a gift I got for Christmas. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it.

So...that is my room. Thanks for coming in!

And yes that's me...but most of the time I look and act like this...

...a hot mess. :)
