New Member, New Bedroom

Hi there! I just finished redoing my bedroom yesterday. In the process of looking for ideas, I came across this community, lurked quite a bit, and figured I'd post what I've been up to. <3 Thanks for all the inspiration guys, this place is definitely far more live-able than it used to be.

I am happiest when it is cold and overcast outside. I figured I'd bring that into my living space with gray walls and white furniture. Also, it doesn't clash too badly with the blue carpet, which I cannot change quite yet.

It's an Ikea bookcase I've had for a while. It also had a very impractical, large gap at the bottom. So I painted it white, painted a thriftstore-found side table white, and put the side table in the bookcase. It's weird, but I like it.

Beside the bookcase is the bed. Another old Ikea piece, futon this time, permanently in 'bed-mode' with lots of large pillows to configure comfortable seating. I pulled an Ikea duvet cover over the cushion itself, found a white throw at Ross for about $6, and I'm pretty sure the blue pillow was from the thrift store.

This is Bob. He resides at the foot of the bed and is cute.

At the foot of the bed is this old, rusty ladder I found when we first moved into the house. I wouldn't trust standing on it, so now it serves as a bookcase/shelving thing in front, and I keep jewelry, belts, scarves, and purses in the back. I keep my makeup in the box on the bottom and my vanity mirror on the floor, since I do use my desk for writing/art/studying. The whitewashed driftwood used to be in my aquarium and I just didn't want to trash it. :P I'm not painting the ladder white because I plan on putting up very stark white panel curtains, but what do you guys think? Should I paint it? Whitewash it?

The desk was a thrift store find painted white.

The decidedly unspiffy rest of the room, where I keep my painting supplies and the rat cage. I use the big canvas to hide the rat cage, just because they're tacky little brats and we don't agree on what good style is. The canvas is propped up on two bins which store art supplies and rat supplies, so no, they can't chew it up. Also, the closet, which is tiny and has no door.

I've just started this and I plan on doing a few more gradual changes (like putting up photos when I find them), but I would love any suggestions and ideas. Thanks! <3
