"Capitalism is the only economic system that works!" - the anonymous capitalist
When people say this, I wonder how they define "works?"
Do they mean works for the upper 2% of the population with
over half of the world's wealth?
Are they implying that capitalism works for first-world nations, such as the United States with 4% of the world's population using a quarter of the world's energy? That
16% of the world's population (mostly the west) consumes 80% of it's resources?
I guess I'm just naive when I think about "works" (as a verb without an adjective) as defined - to act or operate effectively. Perhaps those slogan-eers aren't taking into account everybody when they say "works," but maybe that's the point.
