Vientiane and Vang Vieng
Well we spent a full week in Vientiane. It is a nice city but my perception of it kind of soured toward the end. Once it gets dark the streets fill up with people trying to sell opium. I'm back in civilisation after my teaching round in woop woop (I had an absolute ball - gotta love those country kids) and I've just finished catching up with everything you've been doing.
Death Highway...eek! Luke, the flying was the last thing you should have been worried about after hearing about that road!!! Giant spiders are fine, tin can buses on scary mountain roads are what would freak me out!
The school sounded so sad guys. It makes me want to head over that way once I've finished my course to help some kids that REALLY need it. I wonder if I can..?
The fireball festival sounded fantanstic too. Nikki, you write so well - I had a perfect mental image of drunken Bruce and those girls trying to chat up Luke (I mean Nikki lol). Even without seeing the fireballs, it sounded like a one in a lifetime experience!

P.S. The country kids were so refreshing. They didn't go on about tamagotchi's or bratz dolls - they talked about catching goanna's and driving their paddock bombs!! I'll have to fill you in on more later.

Im so glad that the teaching thing went well! Thats wonderful!
If you really wanted to come over here and teach you would be welcomed with open arms! Especially as a volunteer! The volunteers at the schools here usually dont even have a dip ed. so you would be like a diamond in the rough! And you would just love it mel. The kids are just awesome!
the festival was an excellent day! I am definently coming back another year.. hopefully next time we will actually SEE the fireballs! It was spectactular! and maybe you can take a holiday from volunteering at umphang school and come with us lol.
