if things get a bit too warm for you i'd suggest spending one nite in the D&D inn on khao san road (look for the big green neon sign). they have a pretty nice pool. make sure its open before you pay they seem to close it down often. also, rooms go fast. so you might want to reserve early.
thailand was pretty nice, and bangkok was amazing to me after spending the better part of a year outside of indian cities. the skyscrapers alone blew me away. when you go to the malls though, you might want to play a game. in whatever bookstores you find, try searching for titles relating to philosophy or politics. yeah, i couldnt find much either. strange that.
so, which way you headed now? south to the islands, or north to chang mai? if you head north, chang mai is great, and its a good jumping off point for chang rai (where you do the 2 day boat ride down the mekong into laos). its much more laid back and has cheaper classes (cooking / massage). tho its a bit surreal, they also have a metal music bar there where i found all the people to be amazingly friendly...
