Wow, this is one of the best early historical China fics I've read, possibly the best! Hats off for your research. Very impressed! 摸拜。 你是何方神圣?

I tried looking up the oracle bone script for 华夏 online but couldn't find it. I could only find the character for 夏。The concept may have come later after the oracle bone period?

Your fic reminds me of the critical controversy about the political message of the movie Hero lol (with CCP likened to Qin Shihuang).

I have to go put rice in the rice cooker now.

Oooh, there are other early historical China fics? :O Thank you so much for your praise~ 不敢當,不敢當!我祗不過太喜歡研究這類東東了==;

I looked up some info about the etymology of 華夏 - http://zh.wikipedia.org/zh-tw/中國的稱號#.E5.8D.8E.E5.A4.8F has some information. I think you are right about the term itself coming after the oracle bone period - but I do think the term still fits in the fic, from the information in the wiki article. But thank you for bringing that to my attention - 我沒仔細查這一點,真是太粗心了==

I read about that controversy on wikipedia! XD But I think the criticism comes from a very Western point of view and doesn't take into account how having one unified kingdom was what was critically needed at that time (though of course I doubt those critics know much about Chinese history...)

I actually don't really like using the rice cooker! XD;;; 太難煮出鍋巴了,哈哈~ 我是高壓鍋控~

The footnotes look fine. My rice turned out as per normal, it's not exactly as if I used wood or charcoal-fired stove.I like to eat rice cooked in this, especially the crispy rice bits ( ... )

My mother's used 高壓鍋 her whole life and only had it explode once, iirc (either that or none at all). idk, I find them very versatile ( ... )

Well, I really would like to buy one to cook beans fast but my mother didn't want me to.I wish we can adopt Japanese kanji, I find them a nice medium between traditional and simplified but that would never go through lol.

I don't think my own ancestors were so great, I mean, I was born overseas for a good reason ('cuz Yao was a real mess). :/

I find some of the Japanese simplifications utterly ugly and senseless...and PRC simplification adopted some of them.

Well, the Qing dynasty isn't exactly the highlight of Chinese history...

There's actually a romance novel called 梦回大清 that's really popular.Have you read it? And my mother and grandma were fans of 还珠格格...

I'm pretty anti-Qing, so I try to stay away from stuff dealing with it, because it tends to be all whitewashed crap.
