I have contact lenses now! I got them last Thursday, and I'm getting better at putting them in and getting them out. There is still lots of room for improvement. My new icon is from my second day with them.
It's interesting - I mostly don't notice the clear peripheral vision except when I'm looking behind me. I'm used to really not being able to see anything when I do that, plus my eyes hurt (probably because they're trying to focus when half the field of vision has no lens and the other half has my glasses lens at an extreme angle). I'm looking forward to trying out the feeling of rain in my eyes. Can't do it now because it's snowing like crazy.
I've tried to push up non-existent glasses a couple of times, and I've also expected to not be able to see because I could feel that I wasn't wearing glasses. I also get quite disoriented because everything looks so big when I'm wearing the contacts. I keep thinking "I didn't know the books/mugs/cats were so big ... oh, right". I expect that as I continue wearing them, it will switch so that everything is tiny when I wear my glasses.
Oh, speaking of eyes, I should mention that I'm not upset about the hole in my retina any more. Good thing, since I probably won't hear from the surgeon for a couple of months. I just need to keep an eye out (ha ha) for new floaters or flashes of light in that eye. No biggie.
