Predictably, the
/. crowd has latched on to the Pentagon's
new nuclear war plans which include options for pre-emptive strikes. My thoughts on the matter are
these. The Pentagon and the General Staffs are simply doing their jobs--planning for contingencies. That's what the department of defense is there fore.
I wish people would wake up and realize that the government isn't simply something you pay taxes to-- they actually do work. Many of the faceles bureaucrats actually take their jobs with deadly seriousness, as in the case of the Pentagon. Some, sadly, do not, as in the case of Brownie of Arabia, the former FEMA chief. We should not be shocked when we hear that generals are writing war plans--that's what generals are for. We should be shocked when the president asks for options, and is informed that there are none...because none had been envisioned.
