I love it when the shit hits the fan.

The past few weeks have not been sunshine and rainbows. I was finally able to get my head to stop pounding for a few days, but then with my Dad getting sick, it started again with a vengeance. Since they're finally fixing the roof, we had to turn the heat on upstairs and I wound up waking up with my face feeling like it was going to implode because my sinuses don't take too kindly to manufactured heat in the Winter. So, even if I wanted to catch a break and take a nap today, I can't because it sounds like a thousand Sumo Wrestlers are dancing above my head.

My family spent from 7PM until 2:30AM in the Emergency Room with my Dad last night. He hasn't been feeling too well and was in the Emergency Room yesterday morning and the Thursday before last. He's been having dizzy spells, chest pains and trouble breathing. Yesterday, my Mom rushed him to Winthrop in the morning and he signed himself out at 3PM and decided that he would go for all the required tests as an out-patient. That was all fine and dandy until he didn't feel well around 7PM last night. At that point, my Mom called for am ambulance and begged them to take him to Winthrop but they said that by law they can only take the patient to the nearest hospital, which is Franklin General. After he told the paramedics his life story (It really did sound like that), they let him sit a while and then helped him into the car and my Mom drove him to Winthrop. We spent the next 6 hours or so in the Emergency Room trying to convince my Dad that he had to stay this time, listening to the fire alarm go off in the hospital, and watching drunk guys from the Mineola train station use the courtesy phone and curse each other out. They finally took him into the actual Emergency Room at 12:30AM. Seriously, it's possible to sit in the waiting room for 6 weeks without being called. One guy last night came in with shorts and a long winter coat on. It looked like he had broken his hand. He went out to dinner with one of his friends, came back and still hadn't been called into Triage or registration. It's just lovely how quickly the Emergency Room operates.

So, that's about it. The doctor went in and checked on him this morning. My Dad said that he's only staying a day and then he's leaving. Right, and I'll wake up tomorrow and be Queen of Spain. This time he stays because he shouldn't have signed himself yesterday. Had he stayed, he would have had a room last night instead of early this morning. But nooo, he's too stubborn to do the right thing. However, if he tries to sign himself out, I have a feeling my Mother might just punch his lights out. I wouldn't blame her.

For the first time, I was looking forward to Valentine's Day but now with my Dad in the hospital until further notice, even that has lost its appeal. Hopefully he'll be out by then, but I'm not sure. My Mom said that either way, she's still going to make sure me and Travis get to do something, and that makes me happy. He has been so good about all of this: Calling to check up on my Dad, calling to check up on my Mom, Pat, and me, making sure we have all we need, taking me back to his house yesterday and filling me up with Motrin so my cramps would subside, etc. Also, thank you to everyone who has called to see how things are going. We all appreciate it over here.

Until next time...
