After two and a half hours, what my paper says is The.
To be fair, I have been laboring over my bibliography, something I wouldn't have had to do if (a) I had started this sooner and (b) was allowed to write this in MLA.
As I'm already here, I am going to take this time to mention about two things that have been on my mind:
-The frequency with which I update here is directly proportional to the time I spend writing papers. By this I mean that we should consider (a) the fact that I am writing a paper and (b) that I am likely to write more than one entry/revise an entry several times when I am writing a paper because (c) my mind is anywhere but on the topic of a given paper.
-They have replaced Ignatius with the Nativity scene this year. This makes me both happy and sad: I like good ol' Iggy greeting me, but I hear they're putting him in the new building by the lake. I have a horrible feeling I'll miss him. I don't adjust well to the smallest changes. I do, however, like seeing the Nativity at the entrance to campus. It's different from the Nativities I have in my head from childhood. They are really three-dimensional and life-sized; it means Mary's outstretched arms are more expectant. It bothers me, somewhat, how realistic it is. When the Nativities of your past have been sort of art-deco-ish groups of plywood figures meant to cast shadows of the scene, it makes you think. It makes me think, I suppose, about the differences between Catholics and Protestants. Is one more realistic than the other, more serious? I have been raised in some strange buildings, strange ideas, but I shouldn't be so disturbed by a more human representation of something I'm supposed to believe in. Is "Uncanny Valley" only applicable to artificial intelligence?
