“Aurora, you need to hold it like this.”

“Like this?”

“Your arm needs to be a bit higher.”

Aurora sighed as she broke the position. “Do you think you should show me?”

“I did.”

“Mulan, just come up behind me and help me get into the right position.”

Mulan took a look at Aurora and then the sword. Slowly she came up behind her and helped the princess get into the right position.

“Like this?”

“Yes and you want to keep that position.”

She nodded.

Mulan watched Aurora practice and she couldn’t help but smile at the fire in her eyes. While her movements lacked skill they made up for in passion. Unfortunately that wouldn’t help her in a battle but Mulan had promise to teach her and there was no way she was going to break that promise.

“Do I have it now?”

“Almost,” Mulan told her as she helped her get into the position again. “Now strike at the tree.”

“Now?”

“Yes, Aurora.”

The training session went well for someone who had never held a sword in their entire life. When they returned to the camp Aurora offered to get some more firewood. Mulan said she would go with her but the princess shook her head.

“I’ll be fine,” Aurora said with a soft smile. “I’ll bring this.”

Mulan watched as Aurora grabbed the sword she had given to her and walked into the forest. She stood up to follow (she wasn’t going to let her go in alone) but Emma stopped her.

“I’ll go with her,” Emma said quickly before following after Aurora.

It left Mulan at the camp alone with Snow White but she had grown fond of her in the past few weeks so she didn’t mind.

After Mulan sat down, Snow moved so she was sitting next to Mulan and nudged her gently. “You should tell her.”

“What?” Mulan asked.

“You should tell Aurora how you feel.”

She felt her face instantly heat up and Mulan was ashamed of her reaction but she couldn’t help it. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Mulan, you’re in love with Aurora. There’s no reason to be ashamed of it,” Snow said with a gentle smile.

“What right do you have to say such a thing? You barely know me.”

Snow winced. “I’m sorry. I was only trying to help.”

“No, I apologize. I shouldn’t have snapped at you,” Mulan said quickly. “It was not my intention to react like that. I was caught off guard.”

The smile started to form on Snow’s face again before she nodded. “I just know what it’s like to keep your feelings bottled up inside and love is scary but it isn’t something to fear. It’s a wonderful thing.”

“She is in love with Phillip,” Mulan said quietly. “There is no way Aurora would or could ever feel the same way. There is no point in telling her just to get my heart broken so I’m not going to say anything. I would appreciate it if you could keep this to yourself as well.”

“Of course I will, Mulan. It’s not my place to tell her.”

Mulan looked at Snow White and forced a smile. “Thank you.”

“Mulan, you’re in love with Aurora. There’s no reason to be ashamed of it.”

Aurora remained frozen in her place as she listened to Snow White and Mulan talk. She heard bits and pieces of the rest of the conversation but the thing that kept running in her mind was what Snow said. It was something that Mulan didn’t deny; in fact she confirmed it.

“Why’d you have to go up ahead? I told you to wait for me,” Emma muttered as she came up behind Aurora. It snapped her out of her shock and quickly she faced Emma.

“I just wanted to hurry up and get back. I apologize for not waiting.”

“No need to apologize,” Emma said before eyeing her. “Is something wrong?”

“No, I’m fine. I am just a bit tired.

“You’re lying but I’m not going to pry.”

Aurora took a deep breath before heading back into camp. She shared a smile with Mulan and tried to ignore the warmth it lit inside her. These feelings had been there for weeks now but Aurora had purposely remained ignorant. She didn’t want to ever think about the idea that she may be in love with Mulan. However, now that Mulan had said those words it was the only thing she could think about.

“Are you all right, Aurora?” Mulan asked which broke her out of her thoughts again.

She looked at her and smiled. “Yes, I’m fine. I think I’m just tired so maybe I should get to sleep.”

In the morning Aurora was the first to wake up. She gathered up her skirts and walked a bit away from where everyone was sleeping before sitting down on the ground. It was there Mulan found her minutes later and Aurora wasn’t if she wanted to see her or not because just seeing her face made her heart start beating fast.

“This is a first. It’s usually me who wakes up first,” Mulan joked.

Aurora smiled weakly. “I suppose there is a first time for everything.”

“Aurora, are you okay?”

“No, I’m not,” Aurora whispered. “I’m torn between feeling sadness and happiness. It’s very conflicting.”

“What’s wrong?”

“I love Phillip so much. He’s always been there for me but sometimes I think I’m just holding onto the past and what once was.”

Mulan frowned. “I don’t understand. What are you trying to say?”

“I’m trying to say that I think I’m in love with you.”

Aurora felt her breath catch in her throat after she said that. A part of her couldn’t believe that had come out of her mouth but another part was relieved. She had finally said it out loud and now Mulan knew. There were no more secrets between them.

“You love me?”

“I overheard you talking with Snow White last night and you made me realize that I’ve been ignoring my feelings because I’ve been scared. I don’t want to be scared though.”

Mulan stared at her and then slowly inched close. It was Aurora who closed the distance and pressed their lips together in a kiss that only lasted a few seconds but for her it was perfect.

“We still have to tell Phillip,” Mulan reminded her gently. “I don’t want to hurt him either. He’s my best friend.”

“We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.”

Mulan nodded in agreement and kissed Aurora again. For now this would be enough.
