I’ve read some Austen fanfic, but I didn’t realize what active communities there are for it on the web!
I had a huge Jane Austen phase. She’s one of the few authors whose works I’ve kept in spite of a lot of moving from place to place. “Emma” was a favorite - and it’s celebrating its bicentennial this year! My absolute favorite turns 200 in a couple of years: Persuasion. I’m not sure there’s a book that does melancholy, regret or second chances any better.
Maybe it’s not so surprising that many see her stories as a great place to pull fan fiction inspiration from - her tales of everyday life kind of lend themselves to musing about ‘what happened next’ and to fill-in fics, I’m sure. I especially love the ones that put currently popular fictional characters into her character's roles.
Have you read any Austen fanfic you like? Or is there another writer whose stories you read fanfic for?
