In praise of fandom experts: Who do you turn to for fandom news?
This weekend, while researching a new show that I’ve fallen for (Sense8 - don’t get me started...) I was inspired to check back on a couple of web sites I used to visit all the time. They were for a show long over, whose fans have almost entirely moved on.
One of the sites is still in business - and still collecting theories and spoilers! The other, sadly, returned to me a ‘page not found’ message. Six years of conversation - gone. It made me think about and appreciate those sources of fandom knowledge, and how they are built over time.
Do you have particular experts you turn to for fandom news? Are there community sites you like, that focus either on fandom in general or on a specific show/movie/story/game, that you rely on to share ideas, spoilers and more?
Which fandoms do you think have the most active bloggers, or the best? Or both?
As I start in my role as a mod here for the OTW, I’m most interested in hearing about the people and places you look to for fannish news and inspiration. Some folks have shared a few great resources already, and thanks for them!
