I'm on my way to bed. Well, actually I'll sleep on the sofa as the air in the livingroom is a bit better than in the bedroom. Don't understand how M can sleep there.
Some hours ago I thought it smelled strange. Then it got worse. Then it got worse. Then we started looking if anything could be wrong. No smell at the stairs. The neighbour upstairs was ok. The neighbour downstairs wasn't home. The smell still got worse.
We decided to call the fire brigade who came five minutes later. They looked everywhere for a long time but couldn't find anything wrong. Well, except that it still smelled more. The police came, and the door to the downstairs neighbour (2nd floor) got opened - smoke smoke smoke!!!
But no fire anywhere. Nothing.
Search went on. No smoke by the 1st floor neighbour, so you would think it came from somewhere on 2nd or 3rd floor?
It didn't. It came from a trash can in the office at the ground (0th) floor. An ashtray, a bit of paper and a few plastic cups, I think. They've finished their meeting and left...
It's really weird how there could be no smoke at the first floor and at the stair case, but a lot by us and especially at the second floor (maybe just as much by us if we hadn't had the windows open to get it out?)
Everything is ok now, except that it still stinks. But I'm actually rather affected. When things like this happens, you realise how little it can take. What if I hadn't smelled it and we hadn't reacted quite fast. Very often the house is empty, nobody is home. Or if it had been a few hours later everybody would have been sleeping, what then?
I'm so thankful nothing bad happened!
