When Rosemariné had invited Jules to a party at his cousin's house, Jules had been rather excited despite himself. While he wasn't a fan of the sorts of guests Monseur Beau was sure to have -- they were, after all, the very same people that would be mocking Jules behind his back if he didn't have Rosemariné around -- said guests were rich and successful; getting on the good side of some of them was a good idea. And besides, there would be cake.

When they had gotten there, Rosemariné immediately began to show off to the older guests, charming them with his smile (full of evil intentions, Jules noted) and expensive (and undeserved) clothing as he dragged Jules behind him like an accessory. "He's my best friend," Rosmariné said brightly to what felt like the millionth person, "and he's really nice and smart." Jules, not used to so much attention being paid to him, was beginning to have a hard time concentrating and was quickly getting bored, so he did what any sensible person would do (according to the novels he'd read, at least) and excused himself to go to the restroom.

Naturally, that was a lie; Jules wandered around the ballroom instead, searching for somewhere to hide for a while, he settled on leaving entirely through a hallway, then a shabby side door that he assumed was for the servants. Outside was much quieter and pleasanter by far, and Jules spent several blissful minutes strolling around a nearby fountain, ignoring the other guests that seemed to have had the same idea as him. Hopefully, he'd be able to stay there for a long while and claim that he had gotten lost.
