House Journal Day 17

Feb 15, 2009 19:50

Tonight I sit here on the couch, feet up and relaxed, and I'm thinking about all we managed to accomplish this weekend. We attacked it weekend warrior style and got just about everything done I had hoped for and then some. The first thing we did this morning was to frame up the soffit around the pipes we moved in preparation for drywall.

While Tim and I worked on that, Erin focused on stripping the wallpaper. It already feels like the kitchen is bigger without the wallpaper closing everything in.

Then we built another small frame for what will become the floor of our pantry.

Erin swung the hammer and did all the hard work while Tim and I argued about who had the better tape measure. (For the record my blue one is better)

Things took a turn for the frustrating as we tried to figure out the wiring.

At first we thought something in the kitchen was tripping the breaker, but I traced that circuit to an outlet in the loft of the barn.

The good news was that we could eliminate that circuit, the bad news was that none of us are electricians. We couldn't figure out what was going on so I'm just going to get a book on wiring and study it this week. If I still can't figure it, maybe it will be time to consult an professional.

We finished up the day patching up the floor with a little tile backer board. This particular product was a great find - it's a green product and goes toward a LEED certification, and cuts just like drywall so there is no screwing around with a saw which makes things go much quicker.

Erin again did the dirty work getting it screwed into the floor.

That was about all we could take for the weekend - we were exhausted and still needed to take care of some things like laundry and groceries.
