Hi gang!
So what have I been up to? Why have there been no photography posts? Because I've been taking a break. As of late, I've been suffering from a lack of creativity due to just life in general, and have been re-thinking what I want to do with my photography. One thing that has become apparent to me, though, is that if I really want to go somewhere with my hobby, I need to make things a little more clear to myself, so that they are clear to others. What do I mean by this? In reviewing my photographs for the past few years, I've realized that I have a lot of great photographs, but very few of them tie together. There isn't much that I can build a theme from in my library, save for random photographs of life in Chicago. And even those are pretty scattered and unorganized. My shooting excursions have no planning, no continuity, and lack of focus. I have had no real projects, and have not really been challenging myself.
So having realized this, I have been taking a break for the past few months to get a few things in order, and plan to start focusing on things I want to do with my photography after the new year begins. I want to start taking more than snapshots that include a few good photographs buried in the mix. I have been thinking about a few things already, but plan to make them into real ideas this next year, and hopefully can put together some good themes, projects, and storytelling photography that will be more interesting and attractive to potential buyers and clients.
Sounds big, ne? It is! So for all of those who know me personally (and even those who don't), feel free to offer your ideas, thoughts, and support towards this end as I get going in this new season. And wish me luck, too, as I hope to upgrade my apparatus a little bit, with maybe a lens or two, and some other supplies that will permit for some project work. In the meantime, I hope you all have a happy and safe new year's, and hopefully there will be more to come as 2011 unfolds!
