collecting the lost klums

Mar 16, 2010 13:14

So we all signed back up for weightwatchers, and I think this time I am really ready. I was ready to start eating right, not resigned but actually looking forward to it. I still like treaty foods, and don't think that will change any time soon, but it seems easier to have smaller portions. Anyway.

cut for nerdy nattering. see how I love and spare my loyal 3 readers the boredom? You're welcome! )

I was having a blast over at sparkpeople.com -- it's got GRAPHS and CHARTS which are specifically made for the geektypes. :)

it's a *dangerous* site, though. I mean, you could wander around there for hours reading and doing stuff to be inspired.

Huzzah!! I'm a big fan of the Kashi golean bars too. Though I wish they were less expensive - I've been experimenting to try to come up with a way to make them (or at least something similar, with similar nutritional elements and yumminess) myself, but I haven't gotten there yet. Maybe you and I could collaborate on this.

I am just so, so, so excited about this, and so proud of you guys. I know you're all going to continue to be successful and you're all going to feel so great. I told Courtney that next spring (she kind of panicked at first because she didn't get that when I said "next" I meant 2011!) I fully expect all 6 of us to be going hiking together!

I am looking forward to doing a bit of hiking, though at the moment I am just doing little speed walks on breaks and stuff like that. I'm not sure if courtney will ever really be up for outdoor activities. She's a straight up city girl and freaks out about bugs in a huge way. But, we'll see.

The kashi bars seem like you could make some sort of version of this, lots of puffed grains and something sweet to stick it all together, some sort of protein to give it some staying power.

Hmmm. Shall think on this. I'll have to find out what they cost per unit, we got a huge box at sam's club.

What kind do you get at Sam's? And how big is the box and how much is it? If I could get a better deal on them, I might not feel the need to try to hack them. At grocery stores the cheapest I've found them is $6 for a box of 4.

I made a pan of bars last weekend with oats, flaxseed, wheat bran, some honey, peanut butter, a small amount of mini chocolate chips, and some fiber powder added in ... they're pretty tasty but they don't have quite as much fiber or quite as much protein as the Kashi bars, and they're about twice as many calories, so clearly I'm not quite there yet.

Maybe we could ease Courtney into hiking by trying one of the more mainstream hikes to see how she does - the Laurel Falls hike, for example, is all paved, so your contact with nature isn't overwhelming. LOL! But it has a pretty waterfall at the end.

we got a box of mixed flavors, mostly in the chocolate/nut or chocolate/caramel variety. I'm not sure what we paid for the whole box, and sam's club doesn't seem to list the price of the box of 24, but one of the comments online said they cost less than 1.00 per bar.
