I'm fascinated with reincarnation and have had some interesting regression experiences, so I was primed for this show, which settles into its regular slot on Fox this Thursday at 9 pm. In short, a sexy blond scientist and a grizzled, world weary detective with a tragic past team up to solve crimes by working with people experiencing past life visions.
The chemistry between the sexy blond believer scientist Kate McGinn (Kelli Giddish) and the grizzled soon-to-be won-over detective Price Whatley (Nicholas Bishop) is predictable and comes together a little too fast, but hey, it's TV and we need them to be a team. Scully and Mulder they're not. At least not yet.
In the first episode a teenaged boy is tormented by eerie, confused flashes of violence from a life he does not recognize. To say more would spoil it, but the writers managed to surprise me, and did it very well. The ending had a touch of "Ghost Whisperer" maudlin emotion that I hope does not become a stock plot element, but overall, it was really very engaging.
My favorite moment: they are trying to get past a lawyer to speak with her client. When the scientist is forced to explain what she does, the lawyer stares at her a moment, then barks, "Get out!" The detective then jumps in with something along the lines of Ernie Hudson's "Since I been with these people I've seen things that'd turn you white!" line in Ghostbusters. It works, of course.
A potential bright spot on Thursday nights.
