Sens at Bruins, February 28

Feb 28, 2012 07:37

Before we get into tonight’s festivities, let’s do a quick wrap up on the Sens trade deadline activities.  Staying true to his word, Bryan Murray was pretty quiet yesterday and in the days leading up to the deadline, however he did completed two moves.  The Sens have acquired 6’7 AHL all-star goaltender Ben Bishop from the St, Louis Blues on Sunday for second-round pick in the 2013 draft.

Yesterday, Murray sent defenceman Brian Lee to Tampa Bay in exchange for defenceman Matt Gilroy.  C’est tout!  Definitely a nice change of pace after last year’s tear down and good to see our GM sticking with the plan and not making any rash moves.

Now then, the Sens are off to Boston to face the Bruins once again.  This might be a bit of a sticky one after Saturday’s matchup where Kyle Turris laid a questionable hit on former Sens D-man Joe Corvo.  Corvo let his displeasure be known to the media and although he’s since retracted his fighting words I don’t think the Sens will be forgetting them anytime soon.

Following their 5-2 win over the Islanders on Sunday, Ottawa will be looking to shorten the distance between themselves and Boston for the Northeast division lead.  The Sens can bring themselves within one point of the Bruins with a regulation win tonight.  There’s also some potential for the team to jump as high as 5th place depending on the outcomes of the other games tonight.  The Sens currently sit in 7th.

Coach Paul MacLean seems to be addressing the potential for Bruins shenanigans by reinserting Zenon Konopka into the lineup.  The newly acquired Matt Gilroy will also be in tonight.  Daugavins and Carkner will be the scratches and Robin Lehner will start.    Tim Thomas will likely be between the pipes for Boston.

Puck drop is at 7:00 pm on Sportsnet and Team1200 radio.
