He said not to worry cause he isn't gay? the hell,an author who writes about a world where same sex couples isn't an issue at all wrote such an ignorant and homophobic comment without any character or the narrative saying anything about it.wich makes me think she doesn't find anything wrong with this mentality.

Hi! You posted this just as I sat down at my computer so I'm replying really quick ^-^
Anyway, what happened here was the author was trying to point out that America in the mid-1980's was (and kind of still is) homophobic especially with AIDS just starting to pop up. It was actually first known as GRID which stands for Gay-Related Immunodeficiency Disease and the name had only changed to AIDS two years before this side story takes place.
