I apologize in advance because I really don't know that much about this (only found out today) but since no one was posting very much here I just wanted to try and liven things up.
A live action j-drama of Otomen was serialized in 2009.
Otomen[ オトメン(乙男)] the Live Action was broadcast from August to November of 2009 on FujiTV .
There were two seasons, the first contained 8 episodes and was called 'Summer' and the second had only 4 episodes and was titled 'Autumn' with a total of 12 episodes.
According to DramaWiki, the genre was romance/comedy and the average viewer ratings were 8.0.
Okada Masaki plays the role of Asuka while Indou Kaho plays Ryo.
Unfourtunatly, Otomen was licenced recently so it's incredibly hard to find episodes online and I still haven't watched 2 episodes so I apologize if there are some holes in this.
WARNING THE REST CONTAINS SPOILERS REGARDING THE PLOT OF THE SERIES.
Obviously, it was based on the original Manga by Kanno Aya-sensei. The basic plot line was the same. Masamune Asuka seems to be the perfect male, handsome, strong and captain of the Kendo squad. But Asuka is really an otomen, a guy who has the personality of a girl, liking cute things, shoujo manga, and cooking. Asuka must hide these feminine qualities away though, that is until he meets Miyakozuka Ryo and Tachibana Juta. Asuka falls for the manly Ryo while struggling to express his feelings to her while Juta encourages the relationship to flourish from the sidelines and use the couple as models for his shojo manga, Lovetic (Love Chick).
Although the basic story is the same, there are lots of notable differences. For instance, Asuka's rival Tonomine Hajime plays a much bigger role, being introduced at the beginning of the series and taking part in almost every episode. Some of the other supporting cast like Yamato and the Kurokawa appear much earlier in the series. Some characters take on larger roles in the drama like Tonomine, Ryo's father, and Asuka's parents. Some new characters were also introduced such as Asuka's fangirls, Yumeko, the immature teacher, and Toshiko, Juta's sister who replaced his several sisters. Sadly, there were some characters who, like Kurokawa, who appeared less frequently in the drama than in the manga. As for the casting, I was pretty satisfied as it was cast better than most manga to live action adaptions out there.
A lot of the scenarios from the manga were adapted to the live action including some new ones. I found the original manga based episodes a lot better though. I found the drama a lot most comedic than the manga and it did a lot of parodying of things from Hana Dango no Yori to The Grudge. The second season though is a lot more dramatic and romantic but still retains the same comedy. Throughout the drama though, unlike the manga, Asuka never reveals his feelings for Ryo until the very end and they seem more oblivious than ever. Some scenarios were also a bit far fetched. Lovetic in the drama was actually the Otomen manga, with small changes to the name but still having the otomen concept instead of the cliche pairing in the manga version of Lovetic.
That's really all I have to say about the live action. I personally found it fantastic and almost every episode was a thrill to watch.
If you've watched the drama what do you think about it?
And again I'd like to apologize for my bad english. This is the first time I've posted on a Live Journal community so if I did anything wrong please tell me and I'll fix it right away.
