I'll go through this as briefly as I can, because telling the entire account is just rather exhausting.
On Wednesday night, my stepmom and I went over the order in which we'd prepare all of the food. We decided that our Pumpkin Pecan Crunch dessert and Corn Casserole would be cooked before the turkey, and the Broccoli/Cauliflower dish and our Mushroom/Butternut Squash Stuffing would be done in two separate slow cookers and cook while the turkey was being done. As always, keeping the kids occupied until dinner was the big challenge. My sister was being particularly attitudey, and I told her to think about what she's thankful for because we would ask everyone at dinner. Also, in my head I was thinking that she sure as hell wasn't acting thankful for anything at all. The picky eating which has been an issue in the past had persisted, and I'm pretty much thinking this is going to be a regular occurrence. What irked me is that my sister finished two servings of rice and gravy, but didn't make much effort to finish her one slice of turkey which couldn't have been larger than my hand (with fingers together). Of that one slice, she maybe ate one fourth of it. But in the end, I'm not the parent, so I have no place to direct the kids. My brother ate quite a bit of turkey and ham... but mostly ham. Which is better than just rice. Oh, ironically, my sister said she was thankful for turkey... Uh, somehow I'm not convinced. She was also thankful for family.
I took a two hour nap before waking up at 10:00. I left the house shortly after 11:00 to pick up Jen G for our wait at Old Navy. We ended up staking our place in line at midnight. Fast forward to 2:00, the people in front of us had people come back who left to get them food. But they also came back with two people who were most certainly NOT waiting since midnight. One of them was telling this girl, "Oh yeah! We've been waiting here since midnight!" Now, if I didn't think her posse would bust a cap in my ass for calling them out, I woulda been all, "Bitch, you were most certainly NOT here since midnight. You came here at around 2am after probably getting your fake-ass eyebrows penciled in and getting that fake-ass purple hair put into your weave, so don't you fcuking lie and say you've been here when you haven't!"
There were whispers going around that there were only 30 wristbands available for the Lego Rockband doorbuster giveaway, but in the end, there were only about 26, of which I managed to get the last one, but it was a PS3 copy. I'll be selling it to Angie and Marella, then using the funds to get the game for the 360. I felt bad for Jen because I kinda dragged her into a 3 hour wait for nothing. But she was more irritated with some of the people who were being obnoxious in the line. Afterwards, we went to Sharis and split an omelet and sweet potato pancakes. We also looked over ads and figured we'd take our hand at Game Crazy which had a line 6 people long. There were a couple of $5 games Jen was looking to get. When we got to the counter, we were told they didn't have either game in stock. Stupid wannabe game store. There was nothing in the K-Mart ad which caught my attention, which would probably explain why there was almost no line there. The items I was looking for at Wal*Mart were out of stock, but I scored a bunch of $2-$9 movies. The line itself took about 90 minutes. To fast forward through the rest of this exhausting journey, we went to Target, Toys R Us, then I skimmed Best Buy before taking Jen home. I came home, talked to Jen R and Nichole over the phone before crashing.
Yes, I would have written this with a more upbeat spin if at least both Jen and I got games, and even more so if we had gotten them for the 360. Then I go on thinking if I had only left the house at 10:00 instead of packing a snack that we didn't even eat, that maybe we would have fared better. Oh well, shoulda coulda woulda... fickle finger of fate.
In any case, I'm thankful for my friends and family, I'm thankful for my job and being able to move forward in my life because of it, I'm thankful for my health, and also for our DVR without which I would have been unable to be current with all my shows. :P
