1. When I started shipping them I honestly can't remember. Probably around the time Kratos' backstory was revealed. I know it was reinforced by Tales of Fandom.
2. What I think their challenge is Mithos is crazy. Okay, well, he's been crazy, but he's grown crazier over the years. Kratos just ain't putting up with that shit anymore.
But seriously, I think that, initially, Mithos was not so stereotypically evil. Yes, he wanted to revive his sister, make good on what he misinterpreted to be her dying wish, but I doubt he immediately conceived of this terrible plan to murder hundreds, maybe even thousands of humans in order to have his way. I think this was a steady change... and I think Kratos struggles to ignore this change and recall the Mithos of the past, the hero.
3. What makes me happy about them Their loyalty to one another and trust in one another. The fact that Kratos supported Mithos for thousands of years, even as he gradually turned into a monster.
4. What makes me sad about them ... er... Well, shit, everything. The fact that Kratos even believed for a second that Mithos had the right to feel so angry and to hold such a deep grudge. It's hard to imagine how he could let things go that bad. But he did let it happen. The fact that Mithos was willing to risk Kratos' son's life just to get Martel back. Way to pay him back.
5. What moment I wish had never happened I guess Martel's death? That would negate the game, though. Uh. Maybe the way Mithos turned down everyone's offer to stop and just live a normal life?
6. Who I'd be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other Mithos: Genis Kratos: Anna
7. My happily ever after for them I don't really have one. I think the best I could wish is that Kratos is willing to let go of Mithos after he passes and celebrate the Mithos he originally knew.
Writing this, I realize a lot of this sounds platonic. And I imagine it definitely started out that way, as student/pupil. But, hey, 4000 years being someone's main source of comfort... I have a hard time believing something larger didn't occur. Especially considering Kratos' reluctance to betray the guy.
Heeh, and I agree with pretty much everything. (Well. Other than I would add Kratos ending up with Yuan, but yesh. XD My crack pairings that don't work, wee.)
I has no mithos/genis icons, so have a ditzy lloydotohsanMarch 29 2010, 01:38:08 UTC
1. When I started shipping them Shortly after Mithos appeared and it was like. YAY, WE CAN BE BEST FRIENDS. It got gay. Fast.
2. What I think their challenge is Mithos' ambitions. I do believe that he cared for Genis, it's just that... his sister, her supposed wish, derris-kharlan, all of that came first. He couldn't be with him because he just couldn't set those things aside. They kept him alive.
3. What makes me happy about them Their kinship. Even after 4000 years of living, I don't think Mithos once had a true friend he could strongly relate to. Neither had Genis in his 12. They understood each other and took care of each other.
4. What makes me sad about them They're doomed to fail. Mithos is only with the party to keep tabs on them and to guide them into curing and handing over Colette. He inevitably betrays Genis and even tries to kill him along with the party in the end.
5. What moment I wish had never happened Again, the scene where Mithos dismisses the suggestion that he can just stop what he's done and give up. I think he could have turned and enjoyed a new life with his friends.
6. Who I'd be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other Mithos: Kratos Genis: ... uhhh... I kinda ship him with Lloyd, but not really? Ugh, so annoying.
7. My happily ever after for them There really isn't one to be had. Again, if I could change the ending of the game, I'd have Mithos turn over a new leaf and join Genis and Raine in their journey to end discrimination.
