RANT: Has everyone gone F*&#% INSANE?!?! WTF - Proffessor Gates Incident
I will try to keep this short and sweet:
ONE: RACIAL PROFILING
As a little quiz...
1. Which of these selections is racial Profiling?
a)911 - There seems to be 2 black men with backpacks stealing a car from my neighbor.
b)911 - There seems to be 2 black men with backpacks waiving guns in the air and firing shots off.
c)911 - There seems to be 2 black men with backpacks breaking into my neighbor's house.
d)911 - There seems to be 2 black men with backpacks hanging around my nieghborhood looking at my neighbors house.
The answer is D, not a, b, or c. In the first three... those are descriptions of PEOPLE in the act of felonies IN PROGRESS... not character profiles to detect POSSIBLE criminal behavior.
The cry of racial profiling in this case is so infuriating to me that I cannot see straight.
TWO: OBAMA HAS IT DEAD WRONG, AND NEEDS TO CORRECT HIS SHIT ASAP.
On ABC he made the following comment:
"But I think it's fair to say, No. 1, any of us would be pretty angry; No. 2, that the Cambridge police acted stupidly in arresting somebody when there was already proof that they were in their own home; and, No. 3 ... that there's a long history in this country of African-Americans and Latinos being stopped by law enforcement disproportionately."
If this is what he feels... I want Hilary back!

DEAR MR OBAMA,
1. NO! "Any of us" would not. We can be mad that we had to break into our houses after a long trip. We can be mildly upset by the hassle of having to answer questions after having broken into a house. But "my mama"(see below) didn't raise no fool, and when after I have done something understandably suspicious to get into my own home... a police officer arrives... THAT IS FUCKING AWESOME!!!! I CELEBRATE THE POLICE FOR THEIR FAST RESPONSE.
Professor Gates, do you know how many people in urban communities not 4 miles from your campus would PRAY for more police patrols who could look into potential B&E's.
From the report, and from the witnesses... you were rude, uncooperative... and worst of all...
Professor... you were disrespectful. You called out his "mama"? Shame on you.
2. READ THE REPORT! HE DID NOT PRODUCE PROOF!
He did NOT provide proof that he lived in the House. HE DID NOT!!! He presented a fucking HARVARD ID!!!!
Hey, T*... how hard is it to get a Harvard ID?
Answer... not very.
Did the police officer arrest him? No... he obliged... and tried to call the Harvard Police to deal with him. Except he couldn't because the guy was screaming at him in the kitchen.
3. YES! Yes, there is. It is a problem and we wish it would stop. DWB and other profiling issues are REAL ISSUES. But when a Famous Black Professor starts yelling at a white cop BECAUSE HE IS WHITE... THAT IS A BRAND NEW PROBLEM... and I know Rush Limbaugh is loving this... IT'S REVERSE RACISM!!!

THIRD: "I'll speak with your mama outside." "Do you know who I am?"
Seriously, sir. Professor Gates?

Here is something to mull over. Shawn will back me... it's called "first responder". When you are the First Responder... until someone of a significantly higher rank sees a need... it is the first responder's job to stay with the incident until it is complete. Had Gates let the officer walk away... or if he had calmed down for a moment to let this officer due his dilligence... The report was "two black men with backpacks"... and the officer only saw one. This guy was going to have to write a report, and in that report, he was going to have to answer to where the second person was. The FREAKIN NEIGHBOR WAS OUTSIDE ON THE LAWN... if Gates had just cooperated... the neighbor could have apologized and the incident would have ended.
And a lot of us think - I wish he had let another officer handle it... BUT THEY CAN'T. It's dereliction of duty. This poor officer is CHAINED to this screaming rich hipocrite until the incident ends. That poor guy.
Also... what is the bullshit with "a white woman called"... she identified herself as the Nieghbor... she did not give the "secret code" to the 9-1-1 switch operator to signal that she was a white woman. WTF. They responded quickly because there were other break ins in that nieghborhood this summer... and oh, yeah... a FREAKING HOMICIDE last month.
So, dude... they came fast because you are rich... not because you are black.
FOUR: The truth will come out.
The whole thing was recorded because half the time gates was yelling at the officer, the officer was trying to radio in questions to his Central Office. The pre-release report states that Gates can be heard in the background acting like an idiot.
Also... he picked THIS GUY to go off on? This guy is a career "first responder". He teaches other officers how to be the first person into an incident. This guy was the first responder at the Reggie Lewis incident (Celtics star dropped dead of a heart attack while playing pickup ball). He gave Reggie m2m. The report said that he acted quickly and heroically. Racist cops don't do that.
Police make all sorts of mistakes... and I am seeing a steady trickle of every story that every famous person can trot out.
I am sorry that an incident like this will fuel a rightous backlash... and actually ERASE a lot of the work the Professor Gates has spent his life working to progress.
In the end... this is pure arrogance... but the colleral damage is going to hurt more than professor Gate's ego.
