Friday was a pretty good day. Not so much for the incredible things that happened (since nothing incredible did), but I was in a great mood.
My husband woke me up with Las Mañanitas (singing along with a mariachi-version MP3) and cafe' con leche. I told him (the obvious): I don't drink that, but he replied "That's too bad! Las Mañanitas and cafe' con leche is a tradition in my family!" So I took a few sips (I hope the love was floating on top!) and stopped before I gagged.
If you are not familiar with Las Mañanitas, read this:
Basically, in Mexico, when it's your birthday, your family (and maybe friends/relatives/neighbors) is supposed to wake you up with this birthday song. If you are new to this, you get pretty unhappy, because not only you cannot get some sleep in your own birthday, you wake up startled by all these people standing around your bed, singing aloud and cheerfully, staring at you in pajamas and really messy hair and a I-just-woke-up face... and you feel like killing them all!!! Then you go to work/school and different people sing that song to you, over and over along the day, embarassing you.
Once you get used to it, however, it's pretty nice. The song is much, much more beautiful than the cold, simplistic & super cliche' "Happy Birthday", and you feel pretty special with all that attention.
Then he went to work and I spent most of the day alone. I walked to Tully's, and it was the first beautiful sunny day in days - that made me pretty happy. I brought a pile of books and read a bit of each. Afterwards, I dropped the boring ones at the library, and went back home.
When hubby returned, he remembered that he forgot my b-day present at work... so we stopped there on our way to the Transylvanian Clockworks. (I got a coffee grinder - one like I wanted, yay! It's my new toy!) We endured 2 hours of it, then returned home and watched Desperate Housewives.
