We had to describe a word (to do with science journalism) from a card to our partner. In my defence this was right at the end of the lesson and we were all hungry.
Me: *looks down*
Card: 'erscheinen (to appear)'
Me: ... Also. Es gibt nichts. *gestures to an empty space between us* [So. There's nothing]
Cara: ... *slow nod*
Me: Und dann, POOF! ploetzlich gibt's eine Dinge. [And then POOF! There is suddenly a thing.]
Cara: ... *obviously trying to keep a straight face*
Me: *also* Die Dinge *gestures to imply a verb*? [the thing *gestures*?]
It... took a while. We also had 'it sounds like what light does'.
