Nationals.
It was a gruelling weekend, comprising of 8 games over 3 days.
I'm pleased to announce that the first day I won no games, the second day I won two, and the third day, I won none. the first game I won, because I was playing the guy at the bottom of the table. He had lost all of his games, and somehow done worse than me. He was also an hour late, so the umpires had already told me I won the game, and got 10 points. I was fairly annoyed at him showing up, and we had to rush the game. Also, because he decided to attend the nationals with an unpainted army. The minimum was three colors, he had mostly bare plastic. After all my effort, it was a let down.
Almost his entire army infiltrated, and we rolled off to see who placed them first. He won, but told me to go first. Since it was a recon mission, I put one unit in his deployment zone, in the open, 18 inches from everything, but about the middle of its 6 foot length. It then occured to me that by doing that, I had forced him to be 18 inches from me, and that forced him into one corner, especially after I deployed the other squad with that in mind. It was a bitchy thing to do, but as I say, I was annoyed at him. So I proceeded to shell him with a defiler, since hie was so closely packed, and shott him to death. I lost only a couple of units, and I think they were the daemonettes, so who gives a shit really, plenty more where they came from. I did have the good grace to feel bad about the utter arse kicking, but he was a good guy, and said he was there for fun, which was an attitude I could understand.
The second game was against lyall, but it was a damn close thing. I'm not going to get into the details here, since I want to go to bed.
However, when the awards dinner came, we were informed that 8 people had tied for the Best Sportsmanship award. This information made he understand two things:
1) Their scoring system was fucked. But I knew that already (it was dumb)
2) I was one of the 8. this wasnt a surprise, the last few tourneys I have been to, I'm usually up there.
They reduced the winners to two people, and gave them both awards. I'm not sure how they decided this. They were (of the 8) the first and third highest scoring overall, the second highest having already won two prizes (best army and best theme).
Of the top 10 overall players, none of them were in the 8, and of the bottom 6, 4 of us were. I find that really telling.
Oh, and Friday you bastard! Dark Eldar cant capture fearless models! They can only do that if they are running away! I lost to a Wych Cult army, and he told me it dont work!
