Starting next Monday the 19th of October, I'm prepared to run a "mini-campaign" of about three game sessions during our break from REIGN. In addition to the Dark Tower regulars, I'm proposing that we ask Damon and Matt to join in as well - that gives us a decent number, and it seems like a friendly, neighbourly thing to do as well! :D
These are the games that I'm considering:
Battlestar Galactica: Jyan gave me a copy of the licenced RPG, and it could be interesting to run a game in the style of seasons one and two - a few survivors on the run from Cylons, suspecting that any one of them might secretly be a skinjob! I played a Cortex game (Serenity) very briefly and it seemed alright. I would want to drop some of the canon so that there's a possibility that PCs might be sleeper Cylons. ;)
Dragon Warriors: An atmospheric, old-school Brit FRPG. Dragon Warriors is a fantasy analogue of Europe in the late Dark Ages/Middle Ages where hobgoblins turn the farmers' milk sour, knights look for purpose or adventure after returning from the crusades, and mystics use their psychic talents to fight the corruption of undead pagan kings buried beneath the hill. Mechanics are charmingly 80s.
Marvel SAGA: The card-based Marvel Superheroes Adventure Game is very easy and fast to learn and play. I'm picturing a group of B-list supernatural heroes like Werewolf By Night, Hannibal King, Jennifer Kale, Rintrah - kind of a mystical Avengers West Coast.
World of Darkness: It could be good to bring out an old World of Darkness setting, particularly one that didn't get a lot of use in the old days. From my collection, that looks like Demon: the Fallen (great setting, terrible mechanics) or possibly Kindred of the Ebony Kingdom. I'm not likely to use the old Storyteller system, in preference for something less fiddly (quite likely a version the the one-roll engine).
That's one game of each major gaming genre (science fiction, fantasy, superheroes, supernatural/horror). There are arguably some minor gaming genres I've skipped, such as espionage and westerns, but the only espionage game I own is Spookshow (might as well run Wraith!) and a western is far too close to The Dark Tower. So, what do you think?
