Factions 2nd Edition
The work on 2nd Ed is picking up steam. I have made several major decisions as to the reworking of Special Abilities, and am now up to my eyeballs in the Ritual Magic section. I am taking a very serious look at expanding the Ritual Schools in the "main book" to include Christian, Scicery, and Voodoo Schools, and to include the Pure Chaos School from 1st Ed Player's Guide.
I have a few more weeks worth of Rituals stuff to work on, then will convene with my "ritual expert" playtesters and work out some of the kinks.
I also want to expand the Astral Plane as both a part of the setting, and the mechanics which govern this area of play.
Ritual Practitioners are going to get a significant increase in power and versatility, as a whole.
Post Skyfall
The official playtest began last week. I still have 1 player who has yet to join us, due to schedule constraints, but 6 agents of the World Government's Psycorp have been activated. We haven't yet fully incorporated the Motivation Token meta-mechanic, but this will get its running introduction next Tues.
I'm treating this playtest as an experimental platform to see if some of the changes for Factions are going to fly or not. So far, so good.
Conventions Decisions
I've decided I'm going to skip any official convention appearances for 2010. I have a lot on my plate and won't have any major new product to bring to the table until summer (Order of Battle board game, and hopefully Factions 2nd Ed). I do plan on going to Convergence (partypartyparty) and to Gen Con, but I won't be fielding a booth at either of these. I'd like to be able to roll out a more intense level of production going into 2011.
I don't really like going this "wait" route, but I like the idea of showing up to do what I did last year even less. I also have a hard time imagining myself being happy in pushing a game that I know can not only be better, but is currently being reworked to be better... if I don't believe in the product, I won't be happy selling it. Factions needs this upgrade, and it's going to get it.
