Day 14 - Where you live
I live in , just outside of , in the great state of .

is a suburban community of about 300,000 people. Demographics are mostly white, then hispanic, then asian and asian-indian (lots of technically inclined well-educated folks). Reasonable schools, low crime rates, plenty of good employers (including ). Lots of stuff to do within driving distance, lots of vacation destinations within a short flight. I like living here.

The summer heat is slowly wearing me down, though. When I first moved here, I was told it'd take one or two summers to adjust...and that was mostly true, but it seems that each summer is slightly hotter than the one before, so it just builds and builds and builds. Most of the summer, it was just plain too hot to swim (water temperature...96°F?!?). Today marks the end of the second-hottest September on record. If the day comes that I retire from (I meet their criteria in ten years) and we have the opportunity to move, I wouldn't mind moving back to ...although there are lots of other places we could go, too. We did set down roots here when was young, but he's nearly grown, now. If he leaves town for a job once he finishes school, there's really not too much holding us here.
To be more specific, I live in a house in the southeast part of , not more than a mile from the municipal airport (the noise isn't too bad, except for one plane that perpetually sounds like it's buzzing around at 100 feet). There used to be a waste transfer station nearby, but it's since been scaled down to a residential drop-off facility. There used to be a landfill nearby, too, but it's been shut down, capped, and a large city park has been built on top of it. The area's north-south artery road has recently been improved as well, from one lane each direction to three.

There's been a lot of growth in the area, and it's been nice to observe. Hopefully, one of these days, that'll be reflected in our property values. :-/
