Shirtless Barney Picspam
How I Met Your Mother has a lot of things going for it. The writing is clever, the cast is great, the characters (for the most part) are likeable. Oh, yeah, and then there's the writing staff's willingness to create situations where Barney is sans shirt. All of the caps are mine (except for the Naked Man ones, which I shamelessly stole from idioticonion, and the Three Days of Snow one, which was a gift), so I apologize for the variable quality. And if I missed any episodes, please let me know.

S1E14 -- Zip, Zip, Zip
This episode is notable for several reasons. This is the birthplace of BrOTP, showing us just how great Barney and Robin are together, and also what great chemistry Neil and Cobie have. But this episode will always stand out in my mind as the one with the Battleship scene.
The setting: Robin's apartment. She and Barney have just finished their broings about town and are about to play some "hardcore Battleship". Barney takes this as an incentive to disrobe (complete with porno-style bow chicka wow wow).
Barney: I'm sorry, did you want to undress me?
Robin is not impressed, but we are. It's his cheekiness that really sells the scene for me -- he's all "you know you want me". But then, just a few minutes later, we get some sweet Barney/Robin friendship. Which is why we love this ship so much.
S2E04 -- Ted Moseby, Architect
In this episode, Robin, who is now going out with Ted, hears about him and his... interaction... with another woman. So Robin tracks down the young lady and breaks into her apartment, only to find...
Naked!Bondage!Barney. Yes, Barney has been using Ted's name to score with chicks. Kind of kinky chicks, at that.
Notable for the completely bare pickle Barney. And also for his hilarious scene afterwards, when he's talking to Robin and Lily.
S3E11 -- The Platinum Rule Season Three was a very good season for Barney taking off his clothes. Case in point, this pic after he did Wendy the Waitress:
Notable because... Aw, hell, do I even need a reason?
S3E13 -- Columns
I completely forgot about this episode, which is strange, because it reveals several things about Barney that I'd thought were merely fanon (he's 31 in season 2, and his real name appears to be Barnabas, although he could be making that part up).
Also, nakedness. How could I forget that?
Barney decides that he wants Lily to paint him nude. With a sword.
Lily: I don't think the sword's gonna fit.
Barney: Hehe, I get that a lot.

Oh, "The Goat". AKA the episode right after "Sandcastles in the Sand", AKA the episodes that made the BrOTP following explode. If this ship was born in "Zip, Zip, Zip", it first started noticing armpit hair and an interest in girls in SitS. The Goat deals with the fallout from that episode.
Barney is all angsty because he slept with his best friend's ex-girlfriend. But we don't care about that. LOOK AT THAT ARM. But sad!face Neil is always a good thing.
Robin decides that nothing happened, and Barney pretends to be OK with that, although he's obviously not. Which makes me think that Barney was in love with Robin for a lot longer than from "Miracles". I would've gotten a cap of his sad face afterwards, but the episode I was capping from had subtitles, so I couldn't get both the sad!face and the shirtlessness (and I like to stick to my ridiculous theme) in without Russian or whatever getting in the way. Although I do like the strategic placement of Cobie's name here.
S3E19 -- Everything Must Go
AKA the second Britney episode. Love her or hate her (I didn't care for this episode, personally, but I don't think that was Britney's fault), you have to admit that Barney is shirtless.
Notable in that Barney seems to have gotten skinner since the last time we saw him naked, two episodes ago. Filming out of order, maybe?
S4E05 -- Shelter Island
For those of you who've suffered brain damage recently (sorry about that, by the way), this is the wedding episode. Barney vows that Robin, the woman he loves, is "the only chick I'll be banging" at the wedding. However, things don't turn out according to plan, and Barney ends up sleeping with the dirty hippy at the front desk (as well as Stella's sister -- Barney got the belt, although I think he would've preferred Robin).
And then he realizes that he's screwed everything up. I think that the choice of apparel -- blue/purple shirt and plaid boxers -- might be a callback to "Zip, Zip, Zip". It could just be a coincidence, but, in my mind, this was a conscious decision.
S4E09 -- The Naked Man
This was such a great episode for naked!Neil. Before, his nakedness has been covered up by blankets or an undone shirt. Not in this episode, my friends. Not in this episode.
On the phone with Ted. Completely naked.
Lying on the counter. Not only completely naked, but we can see hip. Hip!
God, this was like the best episode ever.

And, for the sake of completeness, "Three Days of Snow". In which Barney and Ted ran a bar, and Barney banged a chick from Arizona Tech, leading to this immortal scene:
