I have to leave for class in about fifteen minutes, so let's see if I can get through this!
I'm not entirely sure what to feel?
I did love all of the happy girly bonding moments, and Bonnie/Jeremy and Matt/Caroline were cute (although I still have issues with the Matt/Caroline relationship as we last saw it). And I thought Matt's reaction to finding out about vampires was spot-on. And I actually really love Damon when he's playing off of Katherine (which is weird, since I've spent most of my time loathing him this season). And of course Katherine is a sexy BAMF and I love watching Nina's face when she's playing Katherine.
On the other hand... Jesus. The POC kill rate is pretty fucking dire. Isn't that like every minority character apart from Bonnie and her witch cousin who's died? I mean, goddamn. Is this unintentional? I can't see how you couldn't notice.
Oh, and Bonnie losing her powers: most pointless storyline ever or most pointless storyline ever? We didn't get much emotional reaction from Bonnie, and it basically just introduced this problematic subtext with a man giving and taking her witchcraft at will, and I just don't get the point of it at all.
Well, this episode marked the return of two of my favorite dynamics: Ron/Leslie and Ann/Leslie. As much as I like her storyline with Ben, I did feel that it was sort of monopolizing Leslie's time, so it's good to see some of her older friendships get screentime. Poor Ann, though!
And Ben/Tom and April/Andy were delightful, as well. One of this show's strengths is how well they can explore different relationships, and I loved Ben actually liking Tom. And then April and Andy were being their old, fun selves again, and it was a great thing to watch.
Community was all right, and Nikita continues to be one of the more solid shows I watch that I never talk about. WATCH IT. IT ALMOST ALWAYS PASSES THE BECHDEL TEST. Also, Maggie Q is hot.
