DAYS -1 AND 0: HP AND GNOMIES
Our weekend started out Wednesday night, with the Harry Potter movie, the story of which is chronicled elsewhere. After the movie we went to Walmart and raided it for all of its easily-made-with-hot-water-or-nothing-at-all foodstuffs, which was a fun adventure. :D I went in still wearing my ravenclaw robe, and got lots of fun comments from the walmartians on account of this. After that we (as is our wont) got ice cream from Mcdonalds and headed home to arrange our spoils and pack for the journey at hand.
The next morning we got up and headed out between 11 and 12 if I remember correctly. We had ourselves all dolled up (at least partly dolled up) in our classic gnomies costumes (Aka The Team Asuma That Fights Akatsuki) and headed out. It was a pretty uneventful trip, and we got there in about 5 1/2 hours like we expected to. We quickly finished adjustments to our costumes (mostly that meant gelling the shit out of Sam's hair and pinning mine up) posed for a quick picture, and headed to get our badges.
Us:
THat night was the VAMPS concert, and we got to go through the VAMPS express ticket line, which was unique as Otakon lines go insofar as its complete dearth of people. There were literally no people in this line. We just walked right up to the counter and got our badges. (Mine had Ouran people on it yayyy :D )
So then we ran back and I washed off my beard and Sam took a shower to get all the gel out of her hair and then we headed to the VAMPS concert, my experience of which has, like Harry Potter 6, been documented elsewhere.
DAY 1: DEATH NOTE
The next day we got up bright and early to head over, not due least of all to the fact that we had to paint Heather entirely grey. That was a fun time. :X All in all, however, I'm very proud about how her costume turned out. A pic of us all:
(Honestly, I'm pretty proud of all of the costumes... in this pic: Me as L, Sam as Light, Nate as Near, my mom
piratesmile331 as Mello, and Heather
hermie809 as Ryuuk)
This was a fun day. I wasn't expecting to get a lot of pics taken, since Death Note costumes (especially L costumes) are sported by like every other person at any given con, but I guess I underestimated the power of the Group Cosplay. We had a shitton of pictures taken that day and it was very exciting for all of us (and vindicating for me). Mommy faded off after a while to do... something else... and we did various things that included sitting around, going to the dealers room so Nate could have Light and L plushies to use as his toys, sitting around, having our pics taken, and sitting around. Sam and I were nearly celebrities for going whole hog and handcuffing ourselves together, and Heather was highly praised by many. :D Also, I guess this must have been the first time Sam and I have cosplayed as shounen rivals, because we were asked to pose for our very first slashy picture together hahaha. (I'm just sad I didn't get a copy... :( ... ;D) About 4-ish we acceded to Heather's wishes she was hot and her grey was fading) and headed back to the hotel to change out of our DN outfits for the evening. We then changed into our pajama costumes, which were AWESOME imho, especially mine, in fact my profile pic on facebook is now me as Naruto in pajamas. *swelled head*
(Me: Naruto, Heather: Misa, Sam: Itachi, Nate: Tyki Mikk)
We wandered around like that for a while more, and went to a few panels and suchlike so we didn't seem like as big of failures as we were last year... posed for a few more pictures, took a bunch more pictures, and then headed back to the hotel.
DAY 1 MEMORABLE COSPLAYS:
DAY 2: D. GRAY-MAN
We spent out second day in our DGM costumes, and when I say that, I mean it. We didn't even leave the con center until like 9, and that was only because we wanted to go to Five Guys to eat and it closed at 10.
Us:
(Me: Miranda Lotto, Sam: Allen Walker, Heather: Lavi, Nate: Kanda Yuu)
It was such a fun day. Being a cosplayer sort of implies camwhorishness, and I wholeheartedly admit that I adoooore having my picture taken. It's the most vindicating thing that can happen to costumer. And although I have to admit that we didn't *make* these costumes (instead we ordered them online - I would have tried to make them but the cost of all that pleather and all that time spent would have probably been more than the $95 with shipping that I paid for mine)... it was still really awesome to be able to leave that night and be able to say that we probably moved less than ten feet at a time all day without being stopped. I took 101 pics that day, and we probably had at least three times that taken of us. Soooooo exciting. :D My love child out of this set of costumes since I didn't really make any of them was Lavi's hammer. It was so much fun to make and I think it turned out really well. :D We had a pretty good time though all in all. We also went and saw Crispin Freeman and Travis Willingham's Q and A sessions, which were super fun, way more so that we expected, actually. Pics of them are below :D
This was a good day for pics of other people:
DAY 2 MEMORABLE COSPLAYS:
emperor lelouch cosplaygasmmmmmm i loooove this outfit i want to sew itttt
Oh, Otakon Saturday... ♥
And finally:
DAY 3: NARUTO (AKA SASUKE DAY)
(Sam: Original Sasuke, Heather: Chuunin exam Sasuke, Me: Second Stage Curse Seal Sasuke, Nate: Shippuuden Sasuke)
This was a great day (although it wasn't as great driving home while gray and with my Sharingan on for me at least...). Again, I think it was the lure of the Group Cosplay that led to us getting our picture taken so many times. I was surprised by the demographic that seemed to really like our costumes: sasukeh0ar 13 year olds (which I expected) and all black males at the con (which I did not expect haha). It was a good end to the con, all in all, and I very much enjoyed the experience. :D
DAY 3 MEMORABLE COSPLAYS:
And my haul:
All in all it was a splendiferous con. The ride home was pretty uneventful. We dropped everyone off at their respective homes and then headed home ourselves. It was a very good time and I think everyone had a crapload of fun, so I say con: success. :D
/long post is looooong
