Sooooo... had a pretty packed and busy week here...
Had some people over Tuesday night (as my parents were outta town) and as such was the case we did such illegal activities in my home like play dungeons and dragons and pretty much geeked it up all night... Woke up Wednesday and finally saw Superman Returns which I actually really enjoyed if not just for the art direction and directorial choices made! Then Headed to Tustin to Kev's place where I could finally see Hellboy (the first one) and Then we went to the Block at Orange and saw Hellboy II cause I had a couple of AMC movie tickets... I see what people we're sayin about the first one being good, but not anything epic or amazing the second one I actually liked more but I can see how some of my friends really dissaproved as some of the ridiculous humor was kinda off the hook there for a bit but I thought it was funny and I like the stand alone story so over all I enjoyed it. Still nothing can touch the awesome-ness of the comics though, I think it's kinda like Batman where you could actually make it into a Really Epic and Really Dark series or you can make it in to kind of a comicly funny action film and unfortunatley the really kool dark films sell less than the more accessable kid friendly ones (despite how well The Dark Knight is doing right now, but theres some very good reasons why that's beating records left and right and you just need to see it to know that)
After that we drove down to San Diego (begining our trip to Comic-con!) were we arrived and after an over charged parking fee (26 bucks for just over 2 hours? wtf!) we saw the Midnight premire of X-files: I want to belive, which was actually really good, and I was like intensely captivated the whole time which is rather rare for me (expecially in the fourth film in one day, yes I'm a freak) The film has a shit load of fanservice for the loyal fans, and no aliens and a stand alone plot which could attract new fans in theory and was pretty kool and I'm not the biggest fan but I'd seen my share of episodes back in the day. (some x-files fans actually scare the shit outta me btw I found out!) Then we headed back to Riza's home in San Diego where we don't have to pay for a hotel at this Con! so that was sweet.
The next morning, after a late start and a couple of pretty big set backs we arrived Downtown to find the sheer number of people this con has grown to attract has left the city with virtually no parking anywhere and after doing plenty of unsucessfull sharking we ended up parking all they way across the city uptown. But we made it to the con no problem tho (a little extra walking never killed nobody!) and after a stellar badge pick up (seriously AX and all the other cons need to take lessons from Comic-con) We spent most of the day in the miles of dealer hall and I spent a good portion of that in the artist alley section checking out and buying many sketchbooks from and talking to many different really amazing artists. (God I'm so inspired!) after the hall closed I got some sweet time while everyone else spent over an hour checking out/reading their loot and things, to spent some much wanted time drawing people and things all over the con, man it was just the perfect ending to the first night. Oh and after that as an awesome treat we looked up this random mexican food place by Riza's house that we found kinda by accident last year, and it was just as amazing before!
Now keep in mind the con sold out way fast so we only bought two days passes individually cause thats all that was worth it really! So we decided to get an early start on the second day to avoid the problems of the previous day, all worked fine enough and We returned to the wonderful Con and amazing Hall! We wanted to catch the Disney/Pixar presentation with out a doubt to secure that we went to the previous panels before it and as I caught the tail end of the LOST panel I was reminded of why I will never ever get into that shitty bull shit show. The next panel was for the first of the new Terminator Films, which I was pleasently surpised by... I was thinking it was shit before the panel, but we got to see the first actual trailer before anyone else (twice!) and it looks fucking amazing, no cg yet but its post apocaylptic (always a plus) and way kool looking, not to mention Christian Bale is the shit, and while he couldnt be there cause he was promoting The Dark Knight in Japan (work, yea right) the rest of the cast made for a very intersting panel indeed. I actually may be looking forward to this film now. props. Then we got to move up (as the terminator crowd is quite different than the disney crowd) we moved qutie far up and got quite good seats for the amazing panel that followed in which we got to see a full 30 minutes of close to finished working footage from the new Bolt film from Disney, which was so great I gotta say, this may be the first like really good film Disney's made in a long time, and definately the first good 3D one! The start of a new trend/record, no joke. Then We saw the worlds first look at Pixar's next film UP, which I gotta say looks SO FUCKING GOOD! I dunno how Pixar does it with such strange and unique concepts but Pixars never had a flop? this is not gonna be it, I guarantee it! ALSO to all of you, as a gift for reading this rambling nonsensical thing I call my life blog, here's a special treat if you wanna see the teaser site for UP they havent advertised it anywhere yet and it just went up the day of the panel but here ya go: www.disney.com/up you know you love me xD not much but you get to see something! I got a lot more info on the movie too so if you're curious hit me up! ahahaha after that we attempted to see the Mythbusters in person but due to a gay thing where panels arent let out before the next one, we didn't get in along with pretty much anyone else who was in line, no big though after that we saw the first 3 episodes of the new X-men show which doesn't premire untill next year sometime, and I wasn't expecting too much, it's on Nick, and lets face it nothing can touch the original show right? But as we got the panel the guy starts with the bold statement "this is our answer to the '90s X-men" and holy shit after seeing it, I gotta say Wolverine and the X-men may just be that, I had some minor gripes with the show but over all I really liked a lot of the ideas this new show was taking on, and it actually is rather casually introducing a lot of kool ideas form much more recent comics which is like never done so I gotta say bravo once again I was so pleasently surprised and impressed, and now I gotta wait (like everyone else) till next year to see more of this awesome show! I'm so broke right now, but I have so many new influences and kool comics and sketch books from amazing artists that Inspire me that it was well worth it. We then returned to Riza's place to Celebrate another amazing con by pigging out leik no joke... "I *Galactus* Planets." We then left that night to go back to my place where an exhausted Kyo and I spent the night.
Sunday (today) I awoke to the sound of baseballs being hit in the God-damned batting cage right out side my window at 8a.m. after 6 hours of sleep totally out of wac with my REM cycle starting the day off on the wrong foot. I had to go to my Uncles Baptism Party (luckily I didn't go to the church ceremony) but even the party was filled with "super happy/fake" people who live their lives "touched by God" I'm sorry Born again chrsitians bug the crap outta me, They even like kept getting close and cut in on our space as us we "unsaved" children tried to just stick to our own circle and kept talking about overly violent films with cruel and amazing deaths, letting a few profanities slip from time to time, oops did I do that... man I wounldnt want to ruin what the real world like for some of these people... sheez.. But hey a favor's a favor even if it is for a crazy uncle who thinks he's getting his life in line, and free food is free food, no other way around it. Escaped that ineresting trap and me and kevin both tired as fuck watched the last Disney film I havent seen Atlantis: the lost empire, and while it was good it wasn't amazing big surprise. Will came over then (bored as hell as usual I think) and then we finished our L5R RPG characters and started what was promised to be a quick game of it which ended up taking quite a few hours... fun though as it used to be ;) geeks will be geeks, after all.
So thats all, I'm quite exhasuted now... expect a movie post tomorrow sometime untill then,
