I have had enough with this health insurance company! I got a letter yesterday with the list of reimbursements for my wisdom teeth stuff... finally, after sending in the claim THREE TIMES. Not only did they ignore the fact that I DID NOT authorize that the payment be sent to the doctor, since I'd already paid them in full (good to see that they pay attention to the signatures on their forms...), they also removed a 0 on one of the charges so that it reads $28 instead of $280, declared ineligible a $350 charge, shaved about 20% off of most of the other charges, and then used THAT number to determine the 60% that they pay, so they ended up only paying $712.40, which is about 35% of what I paid. Oh, and apparently, it wouldn't have mattered much if they HAD counted the whole thing, as I found out when I called to correct the $28 vs $280 issue, as I apparently have a MAXIMUM that they will pay of $750 per year, so if I ever DO have a really big medical issue, I'm SOL anyway.
I am dropping this so-called insurance right now. I would have been so much better off taking the money I've been paying to them ($27.31/week) and putting it in savings. I would've been able to pay all of the costs with that even in just the 2+ years I've been here. Heck, from the sound of things I would've been just as well off just keeping $750 in savings. It would pay just as much as they're willing to pay... I've always thought insurance is nothing more than a legalized protection racket...
Anyway, I need to call my credit union and see if they have a way for me to automatically pull a specific amount out of my checking account and put it into my savings every week. If not, I guess I'll just have to remember to do it manually myself every week or month.
