I know I should probably be shot for making this my first post in two months, but BABY STEPS! And it's just for my own geeky reference anyway so aargh leave me alone.
In case anyone is curious, I'm playing the Sims 2 Legacy Challenge and figured I should pin down which rules I'm using before I go any further so people aren't like "OMG! You changed the rules while you were playing because you messed up!" I'm kinda using a hybrid of the new and old rules because: 1. The new rules are less confusing and better in general, but they're based so much on expansions that I couldn't even come close to getting full points with just the original game, plus I still want to get the points for having NPCs in the bloodline because that's the way I play and it's fun. 2. IT'S A GAME ALL RIGHT WHO CARES OMG
Start out with 5x5 lot and one sim, no cheats except to fix bugs and build, no reloads, no custom furniture or mods, dice roll for aspiration, yada yada.
1. Half a point for each generation born, and half a point for having a portrait of the heir on the lot. Full point for the 10th generation.
2. One point for every $100,000 of net worth, rounded up.
3*. 1/4 point per family friend, using highest number of family friends ever maintained.
4*. 1 point per Impossible Wants fulfilled.
5*. Half point per platinum grave on the lot.
6. Half point per ghost color and 10 points for the complete set.
7. 1 point per NPC type in main bloodline.
8*. Collections/bonuses: 1 point each per alien pregnancy, a complete set of 5 platinum graves, and complete set of 10 career objects. Two points if each impossible want is fulfilled at least once, social bunnies have romantic interactions, ghosts on lot are free roaming, or 10th generation born is twins. Not doing the 25 bottles of elixir of life because that's stupid.
Categories with a * can go into overflow (have more than 10 points possible).
Also points for the Master category as explained on legacychallenge.com, although I don't feel like typing them out here because I'll never earn any of them, except maybe spotless record or finish what you started, and I guess finish line, although that's a stupid point.
Penalties:
-1 per reload, kaching, shrink, social worker, or repo man.
-2 for visitor dying on the lot or interbred birth.
The only handicap I'm doing is (predictably) Matriarchy (where your heirs can only be female), because again, that's the way I normally play and if I can get a bonus point for it then cool. Then again I tend to get a LOT of boy babies in this game for some reason, so if the amount of time I have to keep my female sims barefoot and pregnant to get a girl cancels out the amount of status they get through having a matriarchy, then I'm not doing the handicap anymore because uh, that's dumb.
Anyway, the Kurusugawa Legacy family is, if nothing else, extremely entertaining. On the one hand I feel a little bad for trying to score points and all that in a game made by a company that specifically avoids that in all its games (I think SimAnt was the only sim game where you could actually "win" the game), but the rules are really forcing me out of my regular playing style (which normally consists of: MAKE BABIES!!!!!!111one). I'm only on my first generation and she hasn't even married yet, but starting out with a 5x5 lot makes you POOR, so I tried to get her to marry a rich townie to see if he had any money (last time I married a townie she turned out to be a Criminal Mastermind who brought $10,000 to the household). The townie in question is not one I want as the great patriarch of my Legacy family, though (bad genes and for God's sake, his name is GOOPY- wtf?), so I also had a thing going with the gardener so I could divorce Goopy and start my bloodline with him. GOLD DIGGER OMG yeah moving on. Anyway, Goopy was generally an ass while they were dating- he refused my sim's WooHoo and walked in on her in the shower!- and then it turned out he only brought $1000, so my sim made out with the gardener at their wedding and everybody beat the shit out of each other. It was beautiful. XD
