Man, I have GOT to stop reading feminist blogs so much. If I replaced them with food blogs I would be a much happier and less angry person. Rampant misogyny or ichigo daifuku and butternut squash stew recipes? Let me think about that one for a minute...
Just so all of you know. The reason women, wives, mothers, are going into the workforce is not because they are selfish, not because they want a new SUV and a big screen TV, not because Americans value money over child rearing. It is because they need to be able to support themselves in case their husband leaves them, or dies, or is abusive to the point where they need to get out. I know you all know this, but I see so many fools talking about these "selfish women" that I just can't stand it anymore. My mom was a selfless stay-at-home mom all her life and look where it got her.
1) If you were stuck on an island and could only eat one cuisine (e.g., French, Italian, etc.) for the rest of your life, what would it be? Why?
Indian! The island might be hot, and spices were originally used to mask the flavor if the food started to go bad in hot countries. Plus Indian food just fucking rocks.
2) What is the most unusual food you've eaten?
Erm... I suppose unagi (eel). And maybe some of the mushrooms and the sweet rice stuffed chicken at Chinese New Year.
3) What is the most unusual food you've eaten and liked?
The chicken. Can't say I liked either of the other ones, haha.
4) What foods will you avoid eating (either because of a dietary choice or allergies or just plain don't like)?
I hate American condiments... ketchup, mustard, relish. I will never ear those under any circumstances. Although I do like mayonnaise.
5) Do you cook (and by that, I mean prepare a meal that you'd serve to friends)?
Of course! I never get to cook for other people, but I totally would. I love cooking.
6) If yes, what is your favorite dish to prepare to impress someone?
Probably enchiladas or pasta with homemade pesto sauce. I tried to impress Ryan with tandoori chicken once and my head pretty much exploded when I ate it, it was so damn spicy.
7) When you go to a restaurant, what's your ordering strategy/preference?
Just stuff that I like. I rarely try anything new (i.e., no raw ingredients that I haven't had before, like types of fish or weird veggies), but I like to try new dishes with ingredients I know I like.
8) Have you ever returned a dish or wine to the kitchen at a restaurant? Why?
Only when they get my order wrong.
9) How many cookbooks do you own?
Only one (Isabel Allende's "Aphrodite", which is more light reading than cookbook, at least for me). Two if a zine about recipes counts. I have made stuff from it before.
10) What is one food that you wouldn't want to live without?
Rice. I eat it with tuna, fried hot dogs, Chinese food, Indian food, curry (i.e. Japanese ghetto curry from a box- this is distinctly separate from the Indian food lol), stir-fried veggies, sashimi, gyoza, tempura, salmon shio, chicken with mushroom gravy, Chinese noodles, enchiladas, tamales and probably lots more that I can't think of now. I doubt I could eat any of those things without some rice on the side.
