Lee is the loud one. He hums tunelessly while he cleans or reads. He twiddles his thumbs or wiggles his toes, which creates a sound however subtle it may be. He mumbles in his sleep. He makes so much noise that sometimes it feels like they’re going to drown in it.
Then he leaves and they realize how necessary that sound is for them, how much they need it now. It is in those moments, when the silence is deafening and they don’t know what to say, that they realize how very precious their lotus is.
