Well the show ended after two highly successful weekends. We even got a standing ovation on 2 nights. Set strike didn't take nearly as long as I feared it would and they fed us pizza after which was nice. And now I have a fairly clean palette of weeknights with which to cook to my heart's content. Oh Joy!
I had free time on Saturday to get some things out of the way so there would be left-overs for lunches and I must say it was a success. I am currently enjoying a tupperware bowl of the easy crab chowder I saw on Paula Dean's show sometime last week. Using 89 cent cans of condensed soup, I didn't feel so bad about splurging the $8 for real crab claw meat from the seafood section of the deli. In the future (because I _will_ be making this soup again. ad again. and again!) I'm sure I could use canned crab meat to the same effect, but I wanted to buy ingredients I had absolute faith in for my first attempt at this dish. Mmmmm! so yumtastic. I tweaked the recipe only slightly by cutting the crab meat called for in half and making up for it with small shrimps. Plus added corn because to me its not chowder without corn. Sooo good and sooo filling.
So far I only have two other recipes waiting on the idea board. I'm going to try another new soup - an Italian variation of chicken noodle soup (thank you food whore Giada) and a pizza dough recipe from Rachael Ray (which is interesting because usually I'm not a fan of Rachael's dishes, but I guess technically I'm only using part of a much larger recipe - thank you oh Queen of the half hour epicurean delight). I had high aspirations to make a classy and classic Italian style pizza using the dough, but alas I allowed myself to be reigned in by Matt's taste buds :-P Oh well. If it turns out well I could always do another pizza another time using the toppings I originally planned. Hopefully something else will inspire me this week on the food network so I can have a few recipes waiting in the wings for this weekend.
