Opening night musings

The Great American Trailer Park Musical opens tonight!!! It has been so much work, but so much fun. There have been laughs and there have been tears (mostly mine, mostly related to hormones going crazy). But the spark that always brings me back to the theatre is still there. I have learned a lot from this production though. Such as, thank god this is a short show (1 hr. 45 min.) because if it were a standard length musical, I would be dragging ass every day at work from late night rehearsals. Also, being that I am married now, it is a little more uncomfortable doing romantic scenes with another man (especially when that man is straight - I'm used to kissing gay men on stage). And of course, now that I have my own apartment (and especially my own kitchen) I am more interested in honing my domestic skills - which requires time that theatre does not afford me. So I think the end of this show will be bittersweet. Its always sad when a show ends because it means play time is over and you have to go back to the real world full-time. I won't exactly miss my character (slut!) but I will miss the singing very much. Still and all, the end of the show will mean free time for school, domestic goddessing, and quality time with Matt that has been too brief lately. I don't know when I'll be able to get back into theatre again, but I'm looking ahead with a far more pleasant outlook than I did the last time I left performing.
